1  Question about Butterick 4742 - Double Fold after cutting? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by MotorCityPinup on: May 25, 2007 07:30:56 PM
I am working on this skirt:

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4742.htm?search=4742&page=1

It's view D.  My only question is that the pattern shows something I've not seen before and I want to make sure I'm reading the instructions right.  They say, "Stitch front and back sections together at side with large circle, leaving free above large circle (this side becomed left front and left back).  Stitch front and back together at remaining side."

Here's a snapshot I took (backwards because it's done with a Mac PhotoBooth):

Am I understanding this properly?  I was going to make a lining for the skirt with muslin, but if I'm cutting, sewing together, and then folding up to sew again, there's no point in that.    I feel like an idiot but would like to get this right - I really like the print and my hubby even made a point of saying, "Wow, that's really nice fabric."  lol

Thank you so much!

2  Swallows & rickrack iPod cozy with headphone pocket... in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by MotorCityPinup on: April 29, 2007 03:02:37 PM
I did this using the Crafty Daisies tutorial (http://craftydaisies.com/2007/01/15/ipod-cozy/), and I made it in the car to boot! Smiley

Here's the little pocket for the headphones.  I just cut the back piece to be long enough to form a 'pocket' inside the flap to tuck the headphones into.  Sorry, this shot isn't as clear, but you get the idea:

My next attempt will be one that looks like our kitty, Remmy.  That'll be more labour-intensive, though, and I wanted something quick & dirty to protect our new toy (Hubby and I bought it for each other as a wedding anniversary gift) during our trip.

Thanks for looking! Smiley

3  Re: Anyone baking anything special for Valentine's Day? in Dessert by MotorCityPinup on: February 15, 2007 08:01:29 PM
I made a raspberry ganache pie:

Hubby was quite appreciative.  Wink  And the pie is DELICIOUS!

4  Blue alien kitty dishtowel in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by MotorCityPinup on: February 10, 2007 08:52:29 PM
I started needlepointing for the long drives between our home, my parents', and the in-laws' home.  Smiley  This is my first - two normal kitties and an alien kitty. Wink

They are quite happy surveying my activities in the kitchen.  Wink

5  Re: Tutorial: Jordy Bag - Square Bottomed Lined Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by MotorCityPinup on: February 10, 2007 08:01:15 PM
I made one, too! Smiley  I modified it to have a shoulder strap and a closing 'strap' thing across the top that fastens with a pretty rhinestone button.  I also added an interior pocket big enough for my cellphone and a few other goodies.

I made these a little late to sell, and hubby doesn't need THREE (besides, he's seen them already).  But here they are!

Thank you so much for looking!  Smiley

7  Shiny new cards (several images) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by MotorCityPinup on: February 05, 2007 08:34:21 PM
There are actually a few more (including a set of Valentines), but I haven't uploaded pics yet.  Soon (I hope)...Some of these are from Christmas, a few are just plain winter cards, but I was too busy to log on to Craftster.  *sniff sniff*

Housewarming

Anniversary of the day we met card for Hubby - orange is his favourite colour

Winter card - made from old Christmas cards

Various Christmas cards.  The first & second are kind of 'cheated' - from JoAnn's kits and other goodies from my stash - but it was an emergency: someone has been stealing our incoming AND outgoing mail, no one got their Christmas cards, and I needed to hustle and make new ones.  Eeek!

Thanks so much for looking, I really appreciate it.  Smiley  If you want to see my other work or closeups of any of these, they're all http://flickr.com/photos/zachsdame/sets/72157594222090054/ < there.

8  Lois Lane's dress in act III of Superman? in Designer Clothing Homage by MotorCityPinup on: December 09, 2006 10:10:16 PM
Anyone know of a pattern for the dress she wears in the end, i.e. on the ship (on her way to accept her Pulitzer)?  I couldn't find any photos online after a cursory search - this is, unfortunately, the best I've got, but perhaps it will jog someone's memory!

Thanks!

9  Skirt for little sister... in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by MotorCityPinup on: November 01, 2006 12:27:15 PM
This is for my sister for Christmas.  I showed it to my best friend, but she isn't into handcrafted things - she likes designer stuff.  So I need some honest thoughts from pros, although I think it's rather pretty for an old pillowcase. lol  Wink   I put beads on the ends of the drawstrings, and had intended to bead the hem, but couldn't find enough turquoise beads.  Oops.  I'm still not sure about the applique, but... *shrug*

Thank you for looking! Smiley

10  Some greeting cards... (newbie at this) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by MotorCityPinup on: September 26, 2006 07:24:23 PM
So, when I am feeling intimidated by and afraid of my sewing machine, which is still most of the time (I'm brand new at that!), I make cards and stuff, since I've been playing with paste since I was, oh, three?  Wink  At the moment, I'm mostly just making cards for friends & family.  Here are the most recent:

Wedding card for one of hubby's friends - they're getting married next month.  Smiley

Anniversary card for Mom & Dad - they really liked it.  I punched out all the hearts and pasted them onto the cardstock.

A thank-you card for my wedding photographer - I scanned this one, so the jelly 'Thank You' sticker looks darker than it is (it's clear).

What do you think?  Thanks for looking!
