1  Olive Branch Hoodie Along? (Now with pictures!) in Knitalongs by burntcupcake on: October 19, 2007 09:19:12 PM
I just ordered the Olive Branch Hoodie pattern from WEBS along with 11 skeins of Valley Yarns Amherst (100% Merino Wool) in Black.  I thought I'd give it a go since the pattern is only $1.49 and the yarn is yummy merino and on sale for $2.99 a skein - anyone else care to join me?

Edit: I also just wanted to add that this hoodie is knit from the top down, starting with the hood, which might make it easier for beginner knitters.

2  Re: Show off Your Custom Text Shirt from Spreadshirt in Craftster Itself by burntcupcake on: July 26, 2007 10:54:12 PM
I ordered a distressed hoodie with the knitting needles from Spreadshirt that says "Knit Fast.  Die Warm." (green color, creampuff font) this weekend and to my delight, received it today in the mail.  I couldn't believe how speedy they were considering I live on the Oregon coast.  Lookie!

I didn't realize I could love a piece of clothing so much.  The quality of everything from the screenprinting to the sweatshirt itself is awesome and it's soooo comfortable.  Yummy, yummy Craftster goodness!

3  Re: Thermal from Knitty in Knitalongs by burntcupcake on: July 26, 2007 02:47:15 PM
Just wanted to show you all a picture of my progress so far.

I really like how it's turning out so far, I know it's going to end up being one of my favorite sweaters.  The only downside: it takes foreeever to make progress on this thing!  It feels like I've been knitting and knitting and that it hasn't even grown.  I know the end will totally justify the means, though.  I did decide to make the size 36 and so far it looks to be about the right size.  Once I make a little more progress I'm going to take it off the needles and try it on.

4  Re: The Beginner's Top-Down Raglan (patt. incl.)[opt. July-Aug. theme: Cables!] in Knitalongs by burntcupcake on: June 28, 2007 12:02:35 PM
I went out and bought some Red Heart Soft Yarn in the Black colorway last night (two skeins for $6, yipee for cheap projects!) and I found just enough Caron Simply Soft in Dark Country Blue in my stash.  Initially I thought the two would be too dark together but I swatched striping with both colors and they look awesome annnnd I got gauge the first time around too!  I'm casting on right now  Cheesy  Oh, and the blue isn't quite that teal looking, it's just the lighting.

5  Branching Out from Knitty in Knitting: Completed Projects by burntcupcake on: June 25, 2007 02:42:23 PM
For Mother's Day, I decided Branching Out would be the perfect present for my mom.  I made it in Lion Brand Microspun in the Lilac colorway and while normally I don't tend to use acrylic yarn, I absolutely love Microspun because 1) It's sooo soft 2) It's cheap (affordable for even a poor, starving college student such as myself) and 3) It's machine-washable.  Plus, it's light enough to be worn in spring and summer and heavy enough for fall and even into winter (I live on the Oregon coast, it doesn't usually go below 38 degrees here in winter).  Oh, and because I like to be completely cheesy and lame, I did 22 repeats of the leaves to match my age because, you know, it was Mother's Day and she's been my mom for 22 years and all that...Now onto the pictures!
