11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: OWS Round 113 & 114 Gallery & Discussion (April 2015) on: May 21, 2015 05:03:09 AM

There are some great colours, and it is good quality, maybe 20 spools, mostly 200m/yards. I thought of using packing tape as a fuzz remover on them, and try playing with them again the next day. If I still react to the thread, I might (as a very last resort) remove the labels, string them up, put them in a small pillowcase or net and toss them into the washing machine... have to remember to tie the ends very fast! Does anyone else think this might maybe work? Or should I just box it up and pass it on to someone without allergies?

I honestly think that it is not worth the bother, I suspect that putting them into a washing machine is pretty much a guarantee that you will end up with a huge knot of thread. It would probably be best to pass them onto someone who could use them as it would be a shame to waste. What a disappointment for you though

edelc--that is a most unusual quilt!  It is quite large as well...how is it quilted?

it's not yet! because of all the triangles and my less than accurate cutting and sewing, it doesn't lay completely flat, so it will be a pig to quilt TBH. Plus the backing fabric is now dry and also a mass of wrinkles and I hate ironing...plus I have just flown back from London last night..and I am lazy

there, that is probably enough excuses for now to leave it in the WIP pile, although I might have a go at the weekend

19  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: another 'how the feck do I quilt this?'...short arm only (Not mine, the machine) on: May 14, 2015 01:27:24 AM
According to a tip I read in a quilting magazine, if you lightly starch your fabric before cutting, it's not suppose to stretch as much on those pesky bias edges. I haven't tried that trick yet, but it should work.

I love starch! I use spray starch all of the time, but haven't managed the trick of 'lightly' Cheesy everywhere gets a coat of starch when I get going..but it is a really good reminder
