I am 99% sure I know what I will be making, but I need to do some serious stash diving for this one.

I have loads of ideas, but all the relevant craft supplies for this one are in the other house...the tragedy of living in two houses with a bad memory (now that line is shamelessly ripped from Dear DaddyLonglegs, another of my well loved books)

Hey there

A complete lack of fabric stores etc. What part of the west are you in. There are plenty of thrift stores around, some much better than others and the lack of flat rate boxes is a pain. ON the other hand after many years of swapping, I think that the postage costs are definitely less than the US. You just need to be careful about how you post. For example a packet goes up to 2kg weight, so if you wanted to send 4kg it is far far cheaper to send 2x2kg, than one 4kg packet.

Customs is another big hassle for things that you are receiving, you need to get everyone (that will) to mark no commercial value on anything they send to you, or make sure it is below about 70e in value (I think that is max, it is worth checking) otherwise they will slap 23% on the value of the item, + 23% of postage +a handling fee, I have been burnt by that before now.

I am in county clare/westmeath feel free to get in touch as I think I am the only regular craftster in the republic!

Brief Description: Each christmas for the last seven years I have made a glitter house, it has become a tradition, the bottoms of the houses are white, so I write a brief account of the highlights of each year. They are made of strong cardboard and so I envisage my great great great grandkids tenderly unwrapping them and reading accounts of the first decade of the 21 century. Depending on how long I live, the village might take over my home.
the whole village

This years was a pink house, in homage to my growing flamingo obsession. I had a pair of pink flamingo earrings that someone made me in a swap, so they are in the front garden .

18  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Glitter house village one house a year, seven years(!) on: Today at 01:04:30 AM
So a long time ago I came across putz glitter housese online, I loved the history of them and thought that I would make one. It was close to christmas, so I figured a little christmas decoration would be a nice thing. I chopped a little branch off our fake christmas tree to make a tree for the garden and covered the whole lot with glitter. On the base of the house, which was covered in white paper, i wrote a short account of the highlights of the year.

Then I did the same the following year..all of a sudden I am now looking at 7 houses. It is part of my christmas tradition now, in the week before christmas I make a house. They are all made of 'grey board' rather than the traditional cereal packet. That was the board that i first used and continuted, a pain in the ass, quite frankly as it is very dense and difficult to cut small apertures, but it makes them very durable. next year I will have to work out some kind of village configuration, maybe make a landscape, but for now this is the village. They get wrapped up and put away after christmas and it is always nice to pull them out and reread each year as they appear out of the boxes of christmas decorations.

whole village, a witch lives in one of the houses, her broomstick is outside the door.

the railway station, this was made to plans from the same glitter house website, but I am not especially happy with the scale, it seems a touch big, but I still love it.

the village church

this year's pink house a homage to my flamingo obsession, there are two tiny flamingos in the front yard. I got the flamingos in a craft swap ages ago, they were earrings.
