My eye for color got a little crazy on this one.
Let's just say the theme started out as unintentional
but
as I kept making the dress, I liked it's tackiness.
And I had yet to make anything that resembled a sideshow tent.
So here it is.


I'm goofy looking.
It helps the theme along.
Trust me.

The top is some sort of stretchy plush fabric, which would have been nice, except for the fact that it wasn't.
It doesn't show up in pictures and was terrible to sew.
A double threat,
but it's comfy.



Ahhh. It feels so pleasant to post on craftster.
I was having withdrawls.

Hmmmm.

Let me give you the scoop: it's a Saturday, a formal family shindig is in an hour, and I'm stuck with a plethora of bowling-alley friendly clothes.
I noticed this Old Navy skirt from years gone by at the extreme undergrowth of my dresser.


Sweet, but what a waistline. I might have worn it maybe once.
(And yes, I am indecently exposing my ribcage-area. My apologies.)

Pair it with a shirt, add some ribbon (it crosses in the back), and pull it up to nerdy levels, and "taadaa!" a pinafore.




Peace once again, crisis averted.

Here’s a fun little half-tute.
The piece sizes: (the clutch size can be easily changed by playing around with the proportions)



And lots of packing tape.
I first made a big square by taping together all of the cards, then cut out the pieces, but if you happen to be a master planner, you could probably use half as many cards as I did by doing each piece separately.
Tape together (in the following order) along the 8” side: front, bottom, back, flap.  Fold your inside flaps (the funny looking baseball-diamond shaped pieces) in half with card side facing each other for that nice foldable crease. Fold your mega piece (the front, bottom, back and flap) along the separate pieces so it looks like the clutch with no sides. Tape the folded side flaps to the sides of the clutch, Warning: don’t tape the bottom of the flaps to the bottom of the clutch, because then it wouldn’t open.
Voila! Magic recycled clutch.

I made this lovelie from some vintage fabric with some inspiration from the fifties.

See? Pleats, a button I covered with the fabric, and vintage cotton lining.
(I need to attach the red fastener a little neater, but awyway...)

And a messenger bag for my preppy friend's day of birth. It was meant to look a little like a skirt, and it was such a pain to add the zipper and button on the front flap. But, silly me, I forgot to add a pocket to the stupendous lining before I attatched it, so it remains pocketless.

It has four pleats in the front, in case the pics are hard to see.

   I get so peeved at those decks of cards laying around my house with about seven cards missing. So, for revenge, I found some packing tape and my nifty sewing scissors, and now, they are a deck of cards no longer.
I'm hoping to add a poker chip as the fastener. I just need to find one now.

Dude. Those are too awesome for words! I love the background color of the keys. how'd you do that? paint?

Actually, the background was a blessing that accompanied the curse. The white paint didn't completely cover the splotchy dye, so it showed through. Nifty!

And lilbandade: they're a size 7. Really sorry.
The black bow is the way it is because I didn't give it the love it deserved. Actually, I was trying to match the antiquity and sloppy feel of the way I painted the piano keys. (but I liked your ideas) Trust me, it (and the elastic) looks slightly better on my feetsies!

(I know, a re-craft of a previous craft! Gasp! The blasphemy! Please, bear with me.)

From atrociously awkward and extremely unwearable 80s witch heels to semi-decent flats.

Well, the rain and my shoes had a little argument. Little did I know that the cheap eighties shoe dye didn’t appreciate the elements of nature. The shoes cried*, leaving terrible splotches of dye running everywhere. They paled and became splotchy. Again, back to unwearable. (*Cue violin music*) The circle of life.

*Just a side note, my shoes are not emotional and don’t really cry. Unless you think they do. Then… okay. Sure.

Back to my story.
After my initial short-lived depression, it was like I had just seen the Bat signal. Time to do what I had to. In a citizenly way, I grabbed my acrylic paints and a sharpie. God bless the sharpie for not quitting me.
Half hour, some black elastic, and a bouncy ska CD later, I produced my piano shoes.
My inspiration? An old man who stood in line in front of me at Albertsons yesterday was the spitting image of Beethoven. (Unrelated, but he was buying eight gallons of ice cream and was wearing Converse. I thought that was a little weird, but undoubtedly awesome.) However, needless to say, I had pianos on the brain ever since.
 




And as for the long narrative, please blame my creative writing class and my stifling teacher. And me. And if you didn’t read it and skipped to the pictures, you’re probably happy you didn’t, now that I’m writing about my writing (if you‘re even reading this). If you did: I’m really touched. I owe you some freshly baked cookies or something along that line.

I would love some opinions, criticisms, compliments, lunch orders, etc. Whatever boats your float.

Some more dressness created by me. (Since I can't seem to make anything else besides dresses).
I created the pattern, since store patterns frighten me.
Made from red flannel plaid, and it's damn comfortable.
It has a black zipper in the back and a black bow, but my photography skills do not extend to taking back shots.

This is a midnight too-tired-to-sleep project.
It took me about two hours to design it and sew it together.
And forgive the hair.
And taking pictures in the shower stall. My dad walked in while I was taking them and just shook his head and left the room. Good times.

Tutorial:

(Please don't make this to sell).

You'll need:
About 1.5-2.5 yards of super stretchy fabric (mine was knit).
In this tute, I didn't use stretch fabric, because I had none to spare. Sorry friends.

1. Cut two pieces for the body. You can trace around a good-fitting shirt and elongate it to about mid-thigh length. Leave the shoulders about two inches wide.


2. Deepen the front neckline.


3. Sew the front and the back together at the shoulders and sides, then flip right side out. You should have something like this:


4. Cut two sleeves. Use the length around the bottom of the sleeve as the measurement around your arm:
And the height of the sleeve the height of where you measured your arm to top of shoulder.


5. Sew sleeves together. Pin to inside-out dress, gathering the top three or four inches of it. Sew onto dress.

6. Cut one neck. It will be a rectangle with a width equal to the measurement around the neckline of your dress, and you choice of height.


7. Sew neck side together to form a tube. Attach neck to dress like you attach sleeves.

8. Cut arm cuffs and bottom cuff. They will be rectangles.
(Arm cuff: width= measurement around your arm, height= twice as tall as you want the cuff to be)
(Bottom cuff: width= measurement around bottom of dress, height= twice as tall as you want the cuff to be)


9. Sew each cuff together inside-out at sides to form tubes, and then turn right-side out.

10: For each cuff, fold inside itself to make it half as tall.


11: Attach cuffs.
At the end of the sleeves (or at the bottom of the dress for bottom cuff), put one side of the cuff behind the fabric and one on top, so it sandwiches the raw ends of the dress. Fold the top bit of the cuff in a bit, to hide its raw edge. Pin to dress, and sew.


That's the end of that show.
