1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Plastic bag ipod shuffle case on: June 26, 2010 03:24:31 AM
My ipod was getting battered around at the bottom of my handbag so I made this little purse to protect it.

I made the outside using recycled plastic bags which have been fused together to make a waterproof and getting-battered-about-in-my-handbag-proof material. I then appliqued on a detail I cut out from an old pillow case.
It was the first time I used a sew-on clasp frame. I like the added detail of the visible stitching.
I packed in plenty of fleecy material between the plastic bag material and the lining to give my ipod a cosy home.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas Chalet Tree Ornament with Tutorial Link on: December 16, 2009 04:43:50 PM

I made this Christmas tree ornament from recycled paper.
You can open up the roof to put sweets inside.

I realised,as I hung it on the tree to photograph, you can also cut a whole in the bottom and poke christmas lights through so it looks like the little house is lit up! (Do be careful not to leave the lights on for a long time unsupervised though to avoid any burning situations!)

I made a step-by-step tutorial, but as it's very photo-heavy I have put a link on my blog: http://pretty-green-blog.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-chalet-ornament-and-tutorial.html

I would love to see if anyone makes this.
I think a whole garland would look great. I hope someone has less work than I do at the moment and will make one for me to see!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Sleepy Cat Upcycled Ipod Cosy on: September 09, 2009 07:55:01 AM

It was my mum's birthday last week and I needed a present which would post easily. I heard she was getting an ipod (she's more technically up to date than I am now!) so I thought a little cosy to protect it on the move would be a nice thing to make. We have two grey cats at home who she spoils so I used them as inspiration.

I made it using only reused materials. The spotty lining was given to me by a lovely friend who was having a sort through her fabric stash and the grey felt came from a jumper which was accidentally put on a hot wash.

For once I actually remembered to take some in progress shots however I got a bit click happy and I don't want to overload you here! If you want to see all the photos visit my blog: http://pretty-green-blog.blogspot.com/2009/09/sleepy-cat-ipod-cosy.html

This little patch is a pocket for storing the headphones in!

Oh yes that is a hand-sewn button hole you see before you! In fact I ended up hand sewing everything because seams with the felt would have been too chunky. It was a very satisfying little project and thanks to the lack of sewing machine I could work on it outside in the sun!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / I made a bra! on: August 30, 2009 04:49:25 AM

I have finally done it... I got round to drafting a bra pattern. This is a basic shell of the style I will use. I can't wait to get some blue ribbon to add a big bow to the middle of this one. I may even make myself some matching knickers! Any ideas of details I could adapt in the future would be great. I thought of adding a front closure with a big ribbon for something less pratical and more pretty.

5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Toast and Champagne Plate on: July 26, 2009 04:03:23 PM

It's my friend's birthday today. I'm taking her to Bob Bob Ricard restaurant for toast and champagne. I made her this upcycled plate to tell her about our trip...

I wrote her an I.O.U. message on the back of the plate in the same ceramic outliner. I added a thirties style border on the back too (the restaurant is decorated like a thirties train station), but I forgot to photograph this.
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Panties Pouch on: July 21, 2009 02:32:53 PM
I made this little draw string pouch to put the knickers I make in. The lining matches the knickers and the illustration is hand-drawn with fabric paints which puff up when you iron them.

I got in a bit of a logistical nightmare trying to work out how to sew the side seam and still have the end of the tube where the ribbon pokes out on the outside. I just about managed it, but if you know a cleverer way of doing it I'd be very happy to know.

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Headband, Earwarmer and Hairprotector on: July 04, 2009 07:08:32 PM
I'm growing my hair out at the moment and like to wear it up because I hate the cut.
However this poses a few problems in the colder weather. Wearing hats when you've styled your hair is a pain. No-one wants hat hair or a massive lump at the top of their hat! I generally end up forfeiting headgear to save the hair hassels, however I get cold. Very cold. Especially my ears, which end up aching.
So I made this ear warming, hair friendly, headband! (sorry the pictures are a bit massive!)

The buttons help the hair-protecting mission because you can carefully place and remove the band around your head.

I used a super chunky wool with a standard size crochet hook to make a tight and sturdy knit. It keeps it's shape and it's surprisingly warm.

I made another one in purple

I made the pattern up myself and I'm pretty proud! However any comments/criticisms/suggestions are always welcome.
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Old Dress into Birthday Panties on: June 19, 2009 01:59:24 PM

A friend of mine had a very sweet dress which was unfortunately very tight and falling apart. As I had been shamefully disorganised and forgotten her birthday I told her I'd make her a pair of knickers out of the dress as a belated present. Upcycling material which is no longer being used into something pretty at its best! When I showed my flatmate she said they reminded her of Celia Birtwell's style and now I can't look at them without thinking the same thing.

See my blog or previous posts here for other pairs of knickers/panties I have made.
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Delicate Collar on: June 10, 2009 05:05:05 PM
I made this collar a while ago using this pattern: http://theongoingproject.blogspot.com/2008/06/crochet-collar-pattern.html

I made one for a friend as a last minute christmas gift and liked it so much I made one for myself. It's really good for dressing up a plain tshirt or dress and, as they're so quick to make, I reckon I could whip one up in the morning to go with an outfit for that evening.

10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upcycled Cake Stand on: June 05, 2009 06:42:10 AM
I made this cake stand a while ago from plates and liquor glasses I found at an antiques shop. It was really fun finding plates that went well together.

I currently use it for all my make up and jewellery... much more friendly on my hips than cakes!

I am currently in the process of moving flat so I thought it would be nice to show a few of the things in my room before they are put in boxes. I will add some more of my homely projects on craftster soon, but in the meantime you can see my blog post for more pictures and projects: http://myownfairhands.blogspot.com/2009/06/home-sweet-home.html
