Thank you! I would be totally flattered if you stole my idea! Smiley

I'm pretty proud because in all my googling I couldn't find any decent horse costumes that didn't have giant mascot sized heads or require two people, or just looked nothing like a horsey.

I'd be happy to help with any construction details if you do ever make one Smiley

Great pirate costume - the hat is perfect! Did you make it too?

I hope you guys all enter the contest, too!
23  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Adult Costume: Mister Would You Please Help My (Little) Pony? on: October 31, 2007 09:19:02 PM
Inspired by the piles of fake pink hair I had lying around, I decided to be a pony for Halloween. And I went to see Ween, who have a song "Mr. would you please help my pony" so it was perfect. They even played my song!

I made everything myself from scratch. I used a pattern for the top, but modified it. The best part about it is that it's a corset with boning, but the boning is completely invisible from the outside, the pockets are only sewn through the lining. It worked so well, the top totally stayed in place with no bunching or anything. Everything else is straight out of my brain! It's mostly pink fun fur, with some sparkly blue cotton. The sparkles are metallic and look cool Smiley . The headpiece has wire and floral foam in the ears, then covered with fabric, and the hair on it attached to a ponytail. The tail is hair on a belt of its own, which has a battery pack pocket sewn in, since the tail lights up. The hands and feet have hooves made of fun fur and foam visors. There's also a little pouch with a horseshoe on it in matching  fabric, that I used as a mini purse to hold money and ID. The horseshoe idea was suggested by another craftster, so thanks! I like it because I think it looks just like the symbol a My Little Pony would have on their bum.

Here is my flickr album for the making of this costume, too many pictures to post here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fairysari/sets/72157601964199800/

I also participated in the costume sewalong and posted a thread here.

Onto the pictures!

I should also mention that the tail lights up with a string of miniature battery operated lights woven into the hair. Pictures of this part did not turn out well! The batteries are burnt out now, so if I get some C batteries soon I add more pics!

Sorry I don't have pictures of actually being out wearing the costume in public. I forgot my camera, and no one else's pictures have surfaced yet. If they do, I will add them for sure.

Thanks for looking!!!

I love the nibbler costume. I wish my boyfriend was such a good sport! I can't complain though, he is pretty handy with a sewing machine Wink.

Here is my finished pony costume:

I wore my costume out on Friday and Saturday. Everyone really seemed to like my costume. I forgot to bring my camera out with me, and I don't remember posing for any digital pictures- a few friends had disposable cameras so I'll see if those pictures turn up eventually. I did take a few pictures before going out. I might go out again on the 31st,so maybe I'll get better action shots then.

Oh and the silly faces are because my boyfriend was giving me directions as he was taking the pictures: "Ok let's see happy pony! Now confused pony! OK sad pony!"

And a really terrible picture of the tail lighting up. I need a better one of this!

Wow, this rocks! I saw the little thumbnail in recently posted, and burst out laughing when I saw what it was!
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Knitted coathangers - daggy or desirable? on: October 28, 2007 03:25:39 PM

I think they are beautiful, and I would use them because we always seem to be short on hangers!

Now they do an elegant job of holding those slinky garments that would otherwise slide right off a regular hanger  Roll Eyes.

I think especially for this use, it would be nice if they had a little button sewn on the top of each side, to keep little spaghetti straps from sliding off, or hanging the loopy ribbon things in skirts (do they have a name??). As they are I think they're perfect for sweaters.

Thanks so much! I tried to take pictures of the finished headpiece last night, but camera battery died. So I got one picture, but it's hard to tell whats going on. And my camera is charged now, but my costume is in my boyfriend's car at work right now (I didn't want to wear it on, or carry it on the train later).

So that's the back view, lying on the floor. the thin part starts between the ears, and goes straight down to the bigger ponytail cover part.

Anyway, I'm wearing it tonight, so I'll have action shots soon I hope!

Thanks so much for the awesome suggestions!

I finished the headband and all the hair. I did a weft, but I just sewed it between strips of crinoline, although that caulking idea is really cool too. It's hot glued to the headband, hangs down the back, then attached to a part that I can tie around to cover my ponytail/bun. I tried to trim it so it's kinda mane-y.

I wish I'd thought of positioning the ears differently before!! Haha they are totally stuck in the position they are in, otherwise I would totally turn them out to the sides more! I'm just hoping the fact that I have a long tail and hooves will make  them seem horsey.

I am wearing this costume out tomorrow night, so we'll see what I can do tonight. If I can figure out how to attach a cool horn maybe I will be a unicorn.

Oh and I love the horseshoe idea! I really only need a pocket for money & ID... maybe a camera... I totally can't decide if I should make a bag! Oh well, I'll try to put a horseshoe on the pocket!
