1  EUROPE / GERMANY / Craft stores in Munich on: August 08, 2007 02:28:08 AM
In the "yarn stores in Munich" nancyta wrote she looked for craft stores in Munich. Here are some I can think of right now:

Miscellaneous craft supplies:
"Creative Store"
There´s two of them that I know of. One in the Karlsplatz basement, underneath Mathäser cinema. It is separated into two stores, one mainly craft supplies, one mainly art stuff. There used to be another at Gasteig (s-bahn station "Rosenheimer Platz"). I am not sure it still exists, though.

Quality art supplies:
"Schachinger" (www.schachinger-muenchen.de)
This is in Josephspitalstr. 6 (near Karlsplatz)
Besides an assortment of colours/paints/pigments, brushes and paper they also sell materials for gilding and soapstone at reasonable prices

Electronics small parts, wire, cables, materials for metal etching and stuff for model making:
"Elektronik Conrad" (www.conrad.de)
It is located in the "Tal" street, between Marienplatz and Isartor.

Paper, general craft supplies, fineliners etc.:
"Kaut Bullinger" (www.kabuco.de)
This store is quite expensive in my opinion.

Felt:
There is a small store in Dienerstraße (www.daimer-filze.de) selling all kinds of felt imaginable.

General craft supplies:
"Kunst und Spiel"
Located at u-bahn station "Giselastraße" in Schwabing. The craft supplies are upstairs. Small but nice collection, if a bit on the "pedagogically correct" side. Nice assortment of pearls, not the plastic kind creative store sells but glass and metal.

Pearls:
"Perlenmarkt", Nordendstr. 28

And, of course, various hardware / diy stores.
Amongst the more easy to reach by public transport are:
1. "Obi", Westendstr. 221 (u-bahn station "Westendstraße", about 10 min. walk from there or 1 station with the tram.
2. "Praktiker", Balanstr. 52 (Take Bus 54 which leaves at Ostbahnhof and get out at St.-Martin-Str.). Best is to wait until they have their 20%-off-everything-except-petfood offer which comes up something like every two months for a week (will be advertised in tv)
3. "Toom Baumarkt", Grillparzerstr. 20 (about 7 min. walk from s-bahn station Leuchtenbergring but you can also walk from u-bahn station Prinzregentenstr., there is a tram station nearby, might be 19 but I´m not sure)

I might post some more if I can think of something.

Kerstin
