1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / stalled motor on: July 29, 2012 06:54:22 PM
I have a brother embroidery machine 4400 and while in the midst of a design, the damn thing stalled.
error code says the main motor has stalled.
Any ideas as to what I can do? (other than throwing the thing out the window- cause seriously folks! so frustrating!)
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / putting a zipper on a curve HELP on: July 18, 2012 09:18:34 AM
I'm making something awesome for my too cool for words mother in law, but it needs a zipper.
In fact, the zipper needs to curve around corners, like if you take a binder or a folder, and add a zipper to close it all around the edge.
I'd like to be able to do that, and still be able to line it AND have it open and lay flat.

Any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated!!

4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / A poppet for Nytefyre on: May 19, 2011 05:06:56 PM
I made this lovely poppet for the lovely Nytefyre.
Nytefyre wanted her to have green eyes and purple hair.
I decided to go with the classic poppet; slim figure, tail, and cat ears- a puuurfect place to start when poppet collecting.

Here she is, playing with the adorable crochet baby dragon that Nytefyre made me.

Here she is, relaxing before her overseas trip. She was so excited to go to Australia!
After all, her favorite animal is the kangaroo!

She's pretty!!!!

Nytefyre made me a baby dragon, 2 cute people(fingers and toes, folks!!) 2 roly people, soo many eyelashes, bright charms, flower petals, and teensy feather boas!
I loved what she sent me, and it was a pleasure to poppet for her!!
I hope the purple haired girl made ya smile!!

most of my pictures did not turn out well.oops  Embarrassed
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Portrait of a Mad Scientist, or Oskar, a poppet on: August 05, 2010 04:06:55 PM
Hello there, My name is Oskar. I am a scientist, and yes, I have been called mad.

As you can see, I wear a lab coat, vest, shirt, pants, and even a little tie. Only proper, after all!

Do you like my boots? They fasten up the back.

What, the covered jar behind me? Why, there's no brain in that, don't be silly!

It appears that my pocketwatch proclaims it is time to die. Rest easy, my friends, I'll make it quick!

A note of explanation, including the tragic tale of my laboratory!

All buttoned up. Well, I was lying about the brain. Anyone want to play doctor?

Oskar was sent to tracethekat for our Poppet/Ami swap. He boasts posable fingers, faux fur hair, hand painted, black and grey eyes, boots that fasten with velcro up the back, a shrinkydink skull charm watch fob, and a clay brain in a jar.
I loved him, and miss him already. I hope he is happy living with tracethekat. (He was talking about switching brains, but I think he was playing. Right?

Hope you like!
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / poppet pantaloons with a ton of pictures. Srsly. on: May 22, 2010 09:29:25 PM
you'll need :
   fabric
   contrast
  elastic
    thread
Measure like you are going to make long shorts for your doll. Here, a poppet has volunteered

You'll need 2 pieces cut for the pantaloons, and 2 pieces of contrast for the casing. I used pink 1.5"x8"

Hem the bottom of the legs.

place and stitch the contrast along the bottom,

fold in half, and sew along the ( in this case) top of the casing.

place the pants right sides together and sew 1 of the curved sides.

Stitch the casing for the waist elastic by folding down the top part of the pants far enough for the elastic.

Put in the elastic and stitch the other curved side.

now add the elastic for the legs.

You can pin one elastic edge, or tack it with thread.

Now you can stitch the crotch seam.
Trim the threads and slip your poppet's new pantaloons on!

This has, oddly, taken hours to post.
Hopefully it makes sense, cause its after midnight, and I think I've gone blind in one eye. Not sure which one either!

I apologize for the blurryness of some pictures. It was nearly midnight when i took them, and the kitchen has terrible lighting.

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Princess Shaylee, or A Fairy Poppet on: September 10, 2009 05:33:41 PM
This lovely lady is the result of a personal swap with the lovely fiberartist4life.
She made 2 super awesome felt meals for my preschooler, all she requested in return was a poppet.
So, I made her this -

She has gold/blue eyes, long blue hair, a skirt made of blue and gold ribbon, and a blue top.

In her hair she wears a rose studded ribbon matching a rose studded bracelet. Her wings, made of clear plastic, are decorated with silver/black glitter  and white scribbles paints, and are held on by sheer gold ribbon.

I was delighted in how well she turned out, and I'm glad the fiberartist4life loves her as much as I do.
Thanks for such a terrific swap!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / There are people on my wallet! on: July 22, 2009 12:45:35 PM
Just made this wallet for my friend just in time for back to school!
The brown down the center is a narrow grosgrain ribbon to hide the seam.

I used the same ribbon for a zipper pull. 6 card pockets, 2 long pockets and a zip pocket (and 2 retro karate button I made)

All folded up. I used the same yellow print to bind as to line!

Any opinions?
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Red wallet I made! on: July 17, 2009 12:36:31 PM
I made this wallet for a personal swap.
The fabric I believe is vintage as it is really thick, kinda reminding me of old flour sacks.
It has pockets for 6 credit cards and 2 pockets for cash or  checkbooks.
There is also a zip pocket for change!

It closes with velcro!

I found this great tute! http://elily00.wordpress.com/tutorials/wallet/

Its pretty easy!
What do you think?
10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Sandra, the blonde poppet girl on: June 04, 2009 07:49:58 AM
This is Sandra. She's my newest poppet I've finally finished.
I tried the modifed 2 piece chest instead of the 3 piece chest. Gave her a nice look I think. Don't ya know I can't readily find the post with the new bust mod.

Messes up a bit her one of her hands, but you can barely tell.
