1  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / Frida's Flowers CAL-FREE Ravelry Pattern on: Today at 09:45:23 AM
Is anyone doing the Frida's Flowers Crochet Along?  It's a free ravelry pattern and also available here:
http://www.stylecraft-yarns.co.uk/Crochet.htm
I started it last night using Sugar & Cream cotton yarn, the blocks work up really quick and they colors are striking.

In an adorable turn if events my hubby said, "honey, that's really pretty but...... (long pause....) you're not gay"
I said, "I don't think you have to be gay to support gay rights"
And he LITERALLY did this...

And said, "well, you're not wrong!"

Like most of you I am in utter shock and dismay over this weekend's events in Orlando.  A resident of Orlando for over 20 years, this tragedy really hit home since it was right in my backyard.  Orlando is a great place to live and raise my family, it's a huge melting pot of wonderful cultures and great people I love calling it home.
I also lost 2 co-workers in the massacre and my work is having a vigil on Thursday.  Although I had no direct connection with either victim, we mourn their loss as part of our family.  I crocheted this garland for my cube, it's the very least I can do to show I am Orlando Proud and Orlando Strong.  I donated blood 3 weeks ago and my son donated 5 weeks ago so we missed out on that opportunity for support.

If anyone wants the heart pattern it's real simple

Round 1: 10 HDC in a magic ring, join
Round 2: ch2, 1 HDC in same stitch, 2 DC in each stitch around (20 stitches)
Round 3: ch 2, 1 HCD in same stitch, *1 DC in next stitch, 2 DC in next stitch* repeat around, join (30 stitches)
Round 4: see below diagram

All aboard the Hot Mess Express:

I really hate when I can't sleep.... it leads to endless hours on the internet starting off with very innocently watching ASL videos on YouTube and parlaying itself into "how to talk to giraffes" videos.  I digress....... Another favorite time waster of mine is, of course, PINTEREST!!  I keep seeing this pattern in my "recommended for you" pins and it's called Mystical Lanterns, written by a fabulous lady who is also doing a "Frida's Flowers" crochet along, paying tribute to Frida Kahlo.  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fridas-flowers-blanket
Anywho, being the cheap skate I am I looked VERy very VeRy closely at this pattern and said "Hey I can do that!" and based solely off a picture made this one lonely block.  I'm sure there are many more to come as this is a great stash buster and would make a lovely throw.  i wrote down the pattern I used but I'm unsure if I can share it with you fine folks since she charges for it (not sure how that whole thing works-don't wanna have the LIMBO stick busted over my head)
Hope you likey
