1  dumpster-dived butt ugly table into... in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Havartifreak on: September 10, 2006 02:52:05 PM
A dumpster-dived slightly less ugly table!

This is the perfect size for a coffee table for my small living room, so when I saw it in a trash heap in Allston's famous Moving Day, I grabbed it. Here's what it looked like part way into the project (I forgot the true "before" picture):

You can't really tell from the picture, but the corners of the top were all messed up from nailing the top on (it looks like the previous owners nailed a particle-board desktop onto a nice wooden frame).

After a ton of sanding, spackling in all the holes and nicks, peeling the ugly stickers off, gluing some of it back together and painting...

It's now a standing chalkboard. You can buy chalkboard spraypaint at the hardware store and turn any surface into a board. It's freaking SWEET! It's more of a restoration/remodel than an actual craft project, but I'm excited about it, so I thought I'd foist it upon y'all!

2  Monkilyn Manson in CHALLENGE 13 ENTRIES by Havartifreak on: July 06, 2006 08:10:22 PM
Sorry for the bad picture, but my camera's flash can be seen in galaxies light-years away. It kind of washes everything out, but here goes:

Marilyn Manson has gone through many different phases and styles, but I don't think he's ever rocked the sock monkey look! Here he is, made from a gym sock from Family Dollar (nice and gothly pallid), lots of electrical tape, some black tulle for fishnets (you can't really see in this picture), glitter glue makeup and tattoos and um... what we always called "boondoggle" (I'm sure there's a much more enlightened word for it!) for hair and accents.

I was really proud of his platform boots with split-rings going up the sides in faux-bondage fashion, but the picture doesn't really show it, and when I try to take a closeup, it comes out a black blob. Alas.

P.S. This is my first post ever, and my first project too!
