21  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Totoros on: January 13, 2008 09:14:28 AM
Here are some sweet little Totoros.  I somehow managed to snap a metal crochet hook in half while making these!  I guess I have stress issues.

The pattern is available here:   http://heavens-hellcat.livejournal.com/420.html.  Thanls for posting this, Heaven's Hellcat!

Thanks for looking!
22  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sizing Of Boye Hooks on: January 11, 2008 10:51:12 AM
Quick update.  I purchased a new Boye 3.5 mm hook yesterday -- and once again it is only 3 mm when measured.  Weird!

Thanks for the replies.  I'll buy a replacement hook and see if it is also smaller than expected.  It came from the Boye Needlemaster (Hookmaster?) set, though, and the sizing seems consistent with the other hooks in the case.

As far as the snapping of the hook goes, I guess I am really stressed out.  Also, I was making a plushie, so I was using a very tight gauge so that stuffing would not show through the stitches.  I had thought that the hook had been bending a bit for the past night or so, and then it went on to snap.  Weird.
24  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Sizing Of Boye Hooks on: January 07, 2008 08:05:15 AM
Hi all,

I was using a Boye hook (E/3.5 mm) yesterday and I guess my tension was quite tight, because amazingly I managed to snap the metal hook in two  Angry !

I switched to another brand hook and realized that it was significantly larger (though also marked 3.5 mm).  I checked using a hook size finder, and the Boye hook that I broke is actually 3.0 mm, though clearly marked as a 3.5 mm.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Wibit, your creations astound me.  You need to publish a book.  Seriously.  Soon.

Much nicer than mine!!!!!!!!!! It's exquisite! It's just so neat and I love the colour you have chosen!

Wow, wibit, I'm not worthy  Shocked !!!

To use the "broomstick", when I pulled up a loop, I simply slipped it onto the knitting needle and then pulled it tight.  Then repeated across the whole row.  At the end of the row, I slid the knitting needle out.  That kept all of the loops a consistent size.

First of all, a million thank yous to wibit for posting her Athenian scarf, and then a fantastic tutorial.  Here is the original thread:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=208756.0

I used a 25 mm knitting needle as a broomstick to keep all of the loops the same size.  I know that wibit "eyeballed" hers and can't believe that she was able to get such neat, consistent loop sizes freehand!

The purple is slightly darker in real life.

The scarf is a gift for my mom.  Thanks again, wibit!

Absolutely stunning.  Do you mind if I ask how you made the long fur look so perfect?

Very nice!  I'm a bit jealous.  How long did it take?
