11  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: where can i purchase a pattern drafting paper? on: July 29, 2008 08:14:29 AM
I sometimes just use cut up brown paper grocery bags or newspaper.  Or sometimes I use freezer paper.  But you can get cheap rolls of paper from Uline: http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_1956.asp?desc=Butcher+Paper

I really like the book 'SEW-U' because it explains a lot about the basics of sewing, and it comes with three basic patterns (Jeans/pants, skirt, and button-down shirt) that you can alter.  Also, I like the second book in the series 'SEW-U: Home Stretch' which is all about knit fabric.  It also comes with three patterns (t-shirt, raglan sleeve sweatshirt, and dress).

Thanks everyone for all of the nice comments!  I'm glad everyone likes the color-my friend trusted me enough to make out the fabric, so I'm glad everyone likes it!

Gorgeous!  My friend gave me a bag of old jeans, and now I know what to do with them!  I would love a tut!
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My Friend's Prom Dress on: May 18, 2008 08:28:12 AM
So, our prom was on May 9th, and I made my friend's prom dress.  I used Vogue 8360 and emerald green baroque satin.

(Sorry about the wrinkles-this is after we've been dancing)

And a good view of the back....

And just for fun........our friend......

I like it. Is the lining shiny material?

Thanks!  The inside isn't shiny (sadly), it's just cotton.

So I saw this tutorial http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176509.0 a long time ago and knew I had to make it.  I made this one with ridiculously cheap St. Patrick's Day fabric, and now I'm addicted to making these!  Anyway, here are my 'artsy' pictures.

20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Indigo Pencil Dress on: March 13, 2008 03:17:11 PM
So I'm  really proud of this dress.  I drafted the pattern myself and everything.  There are some things I'd change, but this dress was kind of a practice, and I have enough fabric to make another (only required 1 yd.  of fabric and the fabric was only $2 a yard!)  Anyway, here it is!
