1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Is it ok to use old embroidery and crewel kits and thread? on: April 17, 2015 04:15:07 AM
I would handwash. Spray starch is apparently also good for getting folds out of cross stitch fabric (never tried it myself).
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Dyeing Floss Tutoral -Lots of Pics on: September 24, 2014 06:23:26 AM
Great tutorial, am really looking forward to trying this! Did you have to squish around the floss to get dye on the inside of the thread for when you just want to use a couple of strands?
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Party Squid! on: September 17, 2014 04:56:37 AM

I made this for a friend's birthday a few years ago. The squid pattern is from the Sew Lovely Embroidery's Deep Blue Sea iron-on set, then I added seaweed and sequin bubbles. I used watercolour crayons to tint the squid.

Blog post about it here: http://www.unexpectedkitty.co.uk/2013/07/party-squid.html

I took part in Mr X Stitch's "Black" swap a couple of months ago, this is the piece I made for Sister Twisty:

This really tested my french knot abilities and involved much swearing. It was a really hard topic to decide on as it was so wide ranging. I love the background fabric although the photo makes it look a bit odd.

(Unexpected Kitty is the name I do my non-monstery crafting under)
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do you organize your floss? on: December 10, 2013 08:56:49 AM
I use the cardboard bobbins and have 2 floss boxes. I arrange them in vague colour groups, and write the DMC/Anchor number on the bobbin. It gets a bit messy when I have lots of spare 2-stranded bits though.
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: list your etsy store here! on: December 10, 2013 05:28:18 AM
I've just opened my etsy shop:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/madmonsters

It only has my Christmas decoration monsters in it at the moment. I make textile art monster portraits, and currently they are on my folksy shop (same shop name) - I can't decide whether to move them all to Etsy or risk having them in 2 shops at the same time Sad
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Etsy Store Finally Open.....Yay? on: December 10, 2013 04:24:56 AM
Your jewellery is so cute! The prices look about the same as I've seen on Folksy, so I'm not sure if they're too low or not. Maybe show the earrings on a white background so they stand out more - some of them are getting a bit lost on the cards. I know shops in the UK don't refund earrings due to hygiene reasons - is that the same in the US as it looks like you'd refund in all circumstances?
8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Re: Gertie's portrait blouse with an FBA on: April 30, 2013 08:57:57 AM
That's a great fit on you and very flattering. Did you use any tutorials for the FBA (I'm still too scared to try!).
9  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sewaholic Patterns when not pear-shaped ? on: April 30, 2013 08:15:42 AM
Wouldn't you just need to do an FBA if the waist size is OK? Might be worth checking on Flickr to see how it looks on people that aren't pear shape.

Oooh, I've had that project pinned for ages, yours looks great!
(It's not that nerdy, I have a periodic table shower curtain)
