41  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / knitting bag on: September 12, 2006 07:46:05 AM
i'm desperate to make myself a decent knitting bag.  i have an old style one but it is too big and ugly to take everywhere with me.  i want to make something big enough to hold a small project, say a hat, pair of gloves, socks - maybe even a scarf, but it doesnt need to be so big as to hold a jumper or a blanket.  that way it would be good and portable for sitting on my lap in the car or whatever (i'm a passenger!) and i always have little projects going on, especially leading up to christmas.

has anyone here made their own knitting bags?  i'd really like to see what other knitters are using and what they find most useful.  my current bag only has one pocket, on the outside, which is just not enough.  but on the plus side it does have an accurate tape measure sewn to it which is dead handy.

it also has a wipe clean and pretty strong inside.  i have no idea why.  is it necessary to have a really strong lining?

i would really appreciate some ideas and advice - would also love some photos of your own knitting bags if you have the time!

42  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Personal Swaps? on: September 01, 2006 12:54:51 PM
Is there a place to ask for help?  I've seen some lovely fabric for sale in the US, (I'm in the UK) online, but I can't buy it because I don't have VISA, I do however have Paypal so could transfer money straight away to a Paypal owner who could pay for the fabric with VISA..  and the fun doesn't stop there, I live in the UK and I can recieve twice as much (value wise) as a gift than I can as a purchase, so I think it would actually be better for me to a/ have the fabric delivered to a US address and b/ then sent on to me clearly marked as a gift.

anyway, i don't know if this is allowed or if there is anyone here who could help me out at all.  or maybe i could find a US person who wants something british that I can access to swap for fabrics - honestly round here is dire, the only fabric I have access to that isn't ebay is quite horrible upholstery fabrics.

Sad

anyway, whats the rules on personal swaps etc?  thanks.  Grin

I made these with a smaller simplified version of the messenger tutorial.  The fabric for these came from the local scrapstore.  These are my first finished sewing projects that I have done completely on my own.
