1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Autumn Fashion Swap on: August 11, 2010 12:51:06 AM
I was thinking anything and everything inspired by the AW10 fashion trends, so mittens, scarves, hats, jewellery, socks, clothing (I've certainly had clothing through swaps before, although obviously you can't expect everyone to be up for that), bags, hair accessories - it's all fashion!

I was thinking more of an inspiration starting point than set item choices.
I like the freedom that way, see what people come up with.

So maybe everyone would pick a AW10 show, or trend and their partner would be inspired by that.

I adore the new trends for Autumn/Winter 2010, and I think they have more craft potential than most seasons, which frankly sounds like a challenge to me. Yes, we all could run out and buy a pair of Prada socks (oh wait, no we all couldn't), or we could have a stab at making something similar (better).

I'm really inspired by the whole mixed-textures, country and military trends: with chunky socks, lots of layered knits, sheep skin, khaki, velvet, mittens (thank goodness for mittens), leather in a whole mix of browns, greens, greys and other earthy tones.

I particularly liked elements of the following shows:
Prada (socks!!)
Topshop Unique
Burberry

Things like the socks and mittens would be craft-able, but I think lots of other bits and bobs could be done as well - for instance making felted bracelets or lamb-themed jewellery to hint at sheep skin, military buttons to adorn brooches or hair accessories.. or just using the general colour scheme.

There are plenty of other inspiring trends in case not everyone has precisely the same taste in fashion as me. I've seen a fair amount of 1950s inspired, groomed outfits, and loads of very glamorous, sleek black things about, as well as more grungy takes on it too. Lots of incredible embroidery too!

Vogue has a an A to Z of what they think are the AW10 trends right here.

Anyways, I'll stop prattling on! What do you think?

I'm happy to organise, but only after the 2nd of September, as I'm currently writing a dissertation, and I won't get it done if I start crafting things!

That lining is jaw dropping! I love the contrast between outer and lining as well, a really lovely balance. Nice work!

I'm so glad you liked everything xray kitten Smiley

The Alice shop is in the building that is said to have inspired the Sheep's shop in the book. Christchurch, the college where Charles Lutwidge Dodgson worked and lived, is just across the road in fact! The website for the shop is here in case anyone is interested. If anyone ever visits Oxford, its worth a visit.
