I used Lamb's Pride as well, and I would agree - unless you're doubling up on the 220, I like Lamb's Pride better for this project - I think it makes sturdier bags.  I was worried about the twisted i-cord straps, too, plus I just didn't like the look of them, so instead of doing the i-cords, I just knitted one long strap in garter stitch.  So far it's holding up really well, although I think I want to make it even wider next time.  I posted this pic once already on the main knitting page, but here's my bag:
