41  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / upcycled sweater to flapper-esque winter hat on: December 25, 2008 12:23:48 AM
I love this color blue and it always looks good on my mom, so when this sad, abandoned blue turtleneck sweater showed up looking for a new purpose in life, I decided to give it one--in modified form--as a gift for my mom. My obsession with the 1920s was definitely present in the process, but since my mom does not share my obsession, I tried to make the flapper influence subtle.
Sorry for the crappy photobooth photos. I can't get my digital camera to work anymore. Sad

and a horrible pic of me, but it shows the applique on the side better:

This was my first time making a hat or doing applique, so any comments, critiques, and encouragements are welcomed! Smiley

Wow, it looks amazing! stripes = love.
Any chance of an action shot? I'd love to see more pictures!

I warn you that it is a really terrible pattern, though the directions are easy enough to follow. I do sew and it took me two tries to get the sizing right. I got it from Roddenberry.com which is the creator's estate website. They also have the triangle patches and braids, though I made my own braids because theirs were WAY too expensive.

wow, it looks perfect, like you bought it in a store!
It fits you very well too, and the color is gorgeous! Smiley
Did you add a zipper to the front too, or hook-and-eye closers?

46  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Star Trek uniform/costume: Lt. Uhura on: November 09, 2008 06:55:24 AM
Hello all,
I couldn't decide whether to enter my own or my boyfriend's costume into the craft challenge, but ended up using his. But mine is also handmade and I'm really proud of it. The pattern was ridiculously hard to work with--nothing matched up, sizing was WAAAAAY off, and it has the oddest sleeve arrangement I've ever seen. But after a first, botched effort, I managed to put the whole thing together.

Here I am w/my honey. Excuse the stupid look on my face and the poofy belly, I was actually feeling really sick that night, but I stuck it out and went to three parties anyway!

And one more of me, at my friend's place, looking kind of wrecked

I hope you enjoy!
Live long and Prosper!

Yay! You guys look amazing! and he really does look like Kirk!!
I am also a huge star trek geek and went as Uhura. The good thing about a Star Trek uniform is that you could wear it to a convention later and get more than one night's use out of it! I've never been to one myself, but maybe now that I have the nifty uniform....
 Cheesy

I simply love the picture with your friend in it too, you all seem to be quite the character's.

What gave it away, the purple dildo? LOL
Yes, they are characters indeed.  Cheesy
