131  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Newbies Only Swap Round 7 Gallery on: January 15, 2008 06:17:30 PM
Pictures!
Julie/Quilted is an amazing swap partner and sent out my items super early, so I've already got them! They are all so awesome I'm a little overwhelmed. I just hope the stuff I send her is 1/4 as good. She is an excellent crafter and really thoughtful toboot. She sent everything with a letter and some chocolates too, which my all-female household has been devouring steadily since I opened the package. Thank you so much Julie!!!! Your stuff will be in the mail soon!

first, a beautiful hat....it reminds me of flapper hats and the 1920's, which means I love it to death. I'm wearing this every day for the rest of my life!! this picture might not do it justice, there are beautiful knit flowers on the side, too:

and matching wrist warmers! so cute!!

next, the cat/bear ears hat, which you guys have already seen....I love this one too! It's so adorable. My sister has co-opted it since this picture was taken, but she knows she can't take it back with her when she flies home!

next, knowing that I plan to go to medical school (and that I LOVE the Marx bros.), she made this awesome stethoscope bag, and included a new stethoscope! She even made a matching sleeve for the stethoscope to prevent irritation from the rubber! The quote is Groucho Marx. This is really over-the-top perfect, Julie!

She also made me two sets of beautiful vintage bead earrings: a colorful pair made from 60's Lucite beads, and a pair of "Peking glass" hoops from the 50's or 60's (she also included a nice note that explained the items to me, hehe). I'm wearing one of the Peking glass earrings now, which is why the photo is of just one.

Thank you again, Julie! What an awesome craftster! Kiss

argh! my sewing machine is broken! hand sewing seems to be the next step while the sewing machine is at the doctor's. Luckily I'm an old hand with the thread and needle.

Also, I received my package from Julie (aka quilted) today! Everything is so beautiful!!! I will post the pics later, after I find my camera and get my sister unglued from the boobtube so that she can take the pictures, but WOW! I love everything my wonderful partner sent soooo much!

Thank you so much!  Kiss

It's difficult to keep up with all of the posts on this forum! I checked a day and a half ago and had to read through 8 pages, checking back now and it's up to 27 pages! I'm afraid I'm going to miss important things if I can't check often enough! I'm driving a friend and his upright bass to a show in Maine on Friday, so I'm really excited to find out partners before I go. I can use the five hour drive for craft brainstorming!

Okay, bio time.....

I'm Leah, a 24yo college senior studying history and Chinese language. I just came back from seven months studying abroad in Kunming, China. After spending those seven months questioning everything I've ever seen and believed, I'm finding it a bit hard to describe myself here! Who am I?

Oy, I guess I'll just wing it, starting with the basics. I am living with my mother, her dog, and my very chubby orange cat. I have a younger sister with whom I'm very close, who unfortunately lives on the other side of the continent! I am in love with my Macbook (which I took all the way to Tibet this summer!) and spend most of my time with it, or doodling in notebooks, or fooling around with photography. I have done a teeny bit of formal art study in high school and at university. I paint, silkscreen, make block-prints, sew, play guitar, make collages, do some beading, and make found-object jewelry and sculpture. I've been working at a homeless shelter & halfway house for youth for the past six years, with the odd baking or retail job thrown in for good measure (and rent payments!).

I'm a nerd of all sorts. I plan to go to med school after graduation, so all things anatomy fascinate me. I love vintage stuff--especially 20's, 30's, and 40's. Sailors, tattoos, burlesque, music hall/vaudeville, crooners, slapstick, silent film, art deco, ragtime, and big band jazz are some good examples of my obsessions, along with Star Trek (all of 'em), the Marx Brothers, Charlie Chaplin, the Rat Pack, Billie Holiday, Jeeves & Wooster (the books and the show), Sherlock Holmes....

I'm also interested in Chinese & Tibetan cultures, art, language, and music. One of my best friends here in Vermont is a Tibetan refugee. I have him to thank for introducing me to eastern cultures, buddhism, SCA stuff (He is a Mongolian archer at events), and for being an excellent DIY and crafting mentor. As a Vermonter, I'm also in love with quiet places, forests, mountains, and rivers. I'm part Cherokee (though I don't know much about that part of my family history), my mentor/father-by-choice (who unfortunately passed away last year) was Micmac, and American Indian histories was one of my very first interests. I'm also part Italian and am most comfortable hanging out with my dad's half of the family, all of whom are artists, foresters, and weirdos of the best sort. Sustainable living and DIY are what I'm always learning, always trying to put into practice.

I hope this isn't too much or too little....I don't really know what all of this says about me! Usually when people ask me to describe myself, the only word that readily comes to mind is "weird." I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you better over the course of the swap, and seeing all of your magnificent creations at the end. This is so exciting! Best of luck to you all and happy New Year!!!

These are so awesome! I love nintendo characters, and the beads preserve the pixelated appearance. Welcome to Craftster, I hope to see more of your creations soon!
