81  Re: 12 Quilt Projects in 2012 Along in Craftalongs by cursive_queen on: January 28, 2012 06:19:49 PM
Here's my first completed quilt of the year.  its a blanket for my friend's new baby.  Its the Bizzy Kid pattern by Cluckclucksew and 1001 Peeps fabric by Lizzy House (I LOVE her fabrics).  its larger than I normally do for baby quilts but i do like it.  I swear - NOTHING squared up in this - not a single block- and I thought I had cut so carefully too!  After it was done, I noticed some places where the same fabrics were next to each other, but I wasn't going to tear it apart.  The backing is a dark pink flannel.  I would have gone with a purple flannel, but I managed to accidentily order 8yrds of that color on black friday.

First Finished quilt of 2012 - for my friend's new baby.  It's larger than I normally do for baby quilts but I used a new pattern.  I adore the fabrics. I posted more pics on the quilt along thread

Destash #1 - pillow covers
I bought one fat quarter purposely for this, but the other one, trim and backing fabric all came from leftovers of other quilts Smiley
throw pillow covers are sort of addictive - my husband gave me a worried look when I said I wanted to do more.  I just wish the inserts weren't so pricey

I just spent the last hour catching up on the 10+ pages that accumulated over the weekend.  I saw people congratulating me and and I was like, "huh?", then I saw the front page.  Thanks so much ALWAYS!  It's always fun to win something.

Here's some pics of completed projects
The slippers I completed on the 1st (they were a WIP from Dec).  I really like the pattern and it wasn't too hard and I learned a new skill (knitting with 2 sets of circular needles).  I downsized the  ankle area from a large (which was needed for the sole) to a small, because I worried they would be too loose and slouchy, but they're sort of too tight to wear up. Ah live and learn.  They got sent with the oldest stepdaughter back to her dorm

I completed these pillow covers this weekend.  The main fabrics are leftover from a quilt I'm currently working on and the backings are from baby quilts I finished last month.

86  Japanese Dream in Quilting: Completed Projects by cursive_queen on: January 09, 2012 02:58:09 PM
A little back story on this quilt.
I started this around 5 or 6 years ago, before I had quilted anything before.  My stepdaughter was in Jr. High and heavily into Japanese culture and anime/manga.  So I started collecting scraps of kimonos from ebay, then I found the center panel.  I assembled them on this itty bitty machine my hubby had in the garage (I think it had been bought for the kids to play with).  There are lumps and bumps and I added some white squares in.  I embroidered flowers and used an online translation to find charaters for her name.  Now, I honestly am not entirely sure what I had... it was either "beautiful erin" or 'creative erin"... but my computer crashed that had the file.  I then bought the fabric for the border.  I didn't feel confident to quilt it myself so it sat.... til this spring.  My sister in law got a long arm quilter and said she'd try it.  I did my  best to square it up (ha!), attached the borders, and sent if off.  She did a nice job, and then I set to hand binding it.  I finished and washed and held my breath - and it came out of the dryer and I was pleased Smiley  I gifted it to her at Christmas - she's now a freshman in college.  I think she liked it.  She decided to keep it at our house "until she get's her own place'Tongue

I received from Cloverlilly yesterday.  Everything was wrapped in the nice christmas fabric that is the background in the photos.
There was a gummy candy kit that seems to have escaped the photos.
She sent me a great cross stitch that says' All I want for christmas is a winchester".  Its now by my stocking and after the holidays, I'll move it to my my hoopla wall

Next is this great wist inspired pouch.  I love the pink piping.  I've never tried printing on fabric, you did a nice job

She sent me some angel inspired jewelry - a cross stitched necklace and an angel wing bracelet

And she sent me extras to make more angel jewelry

Everything is great - thanks Cloverlilly

Also... Sweet geek told me she got her package and everything was soaking wet on the inside.  I was so upset, I wonder if they dropped it in water or what.  2 of the items can be washed, but ornament was ruined.  It must have been SOAKED because the decorations came off, and they were epoxied on, so it had to be wet enough to cause the wood to swell. Sad
