5339  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Such thing as TOO MUCH Tofu? on: September 14, 2006 11:32:28 PM
the jury is still out about tofu being good for you at all. in fact, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that it is actually quite detrimental to health altogether.
i still eat it myself (soy is nearly impossible to avoid these days) but in extreme moderation. we live in a protein obsessed society, the recommended daily intake is actually quite high. since there is protein in nearly everything, including things like lettuce, it's pretty easy to get enough without consuming too many protein dominant foods.
an excellent nutrition tracker is fitday.com. it's free and easy to use.
and a really good website about nutrition in general, and raw foods in paricular, is rawfoodsupport.com. of course, as with anything, take what you read there with a grain of salt. all raw is not neccessary IMHO, but lots of raw is certainly good for you!
sprouted lentils are amazingly yummy, easy to make at home, inexpensive, and a great source of high quality protein.
happy eating!
5340  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: vegetarian "tuna"recipe? on: September 14, 2006 11:27:39 PM
this is a really great website with a recipe section that has awsome vegan recipes.
www.rawfoodsupport. com

of course it's all raw but adapt it to suit your eating habits. there are some really good mockfish recipes there. most of them have seaweed of some sort in them (there are so many kinds!) for the fishy flavour which has the happy extra effect of being unbelievably healthy for you.

have fun!!
