1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / FAO Dundee Crafters! on: April 27, 2008 05:01:39 AM
The Highwayman Community Centre is thinking of setting up a kind of SnB thing, but for all crafts, not just knitting & sewing.  You know, sit around, chat, drink tea, work on your own projects with company.

It would probably be in the Coffee Bar area so lots of tables and room to spread out.

Plus the Craft Group has two sewing machines (and a dinky one), and I think I could arrange for them to be available for people to use, and maybe some of the other bits and bobs of equipment (glue gun, heat gun, etc). It wouldn't be a class so no teacher but I would be willing to teach anyone how to knit or crochet, and help out with woolly problems.

It would be on a Friday afternoon, probably from lunchtime-ish onwards, for a couple of hours minimum.

And if anyone gets fed up with sitting down, there's a pool table  Grin
2  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Sharpies! on: June 28, 2007 06:04:27 AM
So - these much sought after items are now available in the UK.

Has anyone else seen the ad? I thought it was kinda amusing.

I've seen Sharpies in WH Smiths, just in blue, black & red though. Have you seen them anywhere else?

Enquiring minds need to know   Grin
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Beltane Anticraft! on: May 01, 2007 04:07:45 AM
Oooh, I like these patterns.

I so want a shrunken head bag!!  Cheesy

The bowling bag sounds cool, but there isn't a picture yet.
4  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Women's Weekly Craft Special on: February 25, 2007 04:25:51 AM
I got this yesterday and it has some great stuff in it. The price is 2.99, has 58 projects in it and is available until 23rd March.

I mucked up the scan a bit, so the second page is reversed  Embarrassed but it's still readable.

Some sellers are already selling individual pages on ebay!
5  U.K. AND IRELAND / SCOTLAND / Places in Perth? on: November 06, 2006 05:14:37 PM
I'm going to be spending Wednesday afternoon wandering round Perth while my bf is at a job interview. I know about the Wool Shop in North Methven Street and Loose Threads  in St John's Place (they have a terrifying website though  Grin).

Any other crafty places I should visit?
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Latiss Hat on: October 30, 2006 06:15:20 AM

I just sat and doodled this hat while watching DVDs. It's knitted in chunky wool so is only 42 rows - perfect for an evening's knitting.

The lacy pattern is the simplest kind, and the decreases are hidden in the garter stitch bands.

I'm pleased with how the hat turned out, considering how little brain power I used during the process  Cool What you do guys think?

I've put the instructions on my blog if anyone fancies having a go. It is very easy.  Wink
7  U.K. AND IRELAND / SCOTLAND / Dundee Bead Shop... on: August 11, 2006 03:03:40 AM
... is opening tomorrow (August 12th).

I don't know if I'll be able to go tomorrow - it depends on whether I can find someone to come with me.

I'm trying to not get too excited.

I suggest that the first person to make back here after visiting the shop should post a report for the rest of us. Mainly to tide me over if I don't get to go until Wednesday  Wink
8  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Poor Bunny! on: July 24, 2006 08:00:22 AM

He only has one ear, right in the middle of his head. No wonder the other bunnies make fun of him.
9  U.K. AND IRELAND / SCOTLAND / New craft supply sources in Dundee on: June 16, 2006 12:58:03 PM
I saw a stall last week for Silva Moon, which is a shop in Exchange Street. They sell Oriental clothing & American snack foods which seems like a strange combo to me Cheesy but that includes Koolaid apparently. I haven't have had a chance to visit the actual shop yet but he had some cool clothes on the stall.

Plus there's a bead shop opening soon, back of the Wellgate, just along from the Black Hole. We were speaking to the owners and they reckon they will be open in about six weeks - the delay because of getting the stock in. They said they'll be stocking 800 different kinds of beads. They showed us around the shop, which they are still painting & such like. It looks great already! I'm not even a beader and I'm excited!!

Let's support these shops so we can keep them, and maybe get more cool shops like them in the town.

10  U.K. AND IRELAND / SCOTLAND / Dundee Craft Group on: June 08, 2006 04:16:45 PM
There's a Craft Croup which meets in the Highwayman Community Centre on Wednesday mornings from 10 to 1 pm. After the meeting we have lunch together in the centre's coffee bar.

The group has been going for several years and just now we're doing free taster sessions open to all comers from 10 - 11 am. June 14th is bookmark making (with plastic canvas), June 21st is jewellery making and June 28th is no-knit scarves (using a Loopa). You just need to bring yourself and your tea money (we provide the biscuits  Wink). If you have any special ingredients you'd like to turn into jewellery or a scarf, bring it along.

If anyone wants to join the group on a regular basis, there's a four week probation period before 'full membership'. It's just to make sure that we all get along.

The group does all kinds of different crafts, depending on what mood we're in or if someone has a new craze which infects the rest of us. We sit around a table, blethering, poking fun at each other while crafting. I'm 'most likely to get glued to the table' and 'most likely to glue own fingers together'.  Roll Eyes
