The greens in Yoshi and the mushroom are similar to those in the pirhana plant and I used DMC 700 and 702.  I hadn't posted this yet cuz I was going to make a case for my DS Lite and was going to put the entire finished thing up...

I've never used Q-Snaps, I use the "Needlework Scroll Frame" by Homecrafters Manufacturing Corp.  However, I must second the notion of using stitching mittens.  Here are the stitching mittens I asked my mom to make for me (she has a sweing machine, I don't):
