1  Swatch portraits = lovely, cheap art idea. in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by virginiawoolf on: June 04, 2007 06:23:37 PM
I fell in love with the swatch portraits on the Purl Bee (http://www.purlbee.com/swatch-portraits/ and decided I needed to make some of my own!

A close up of some of my fabric.

I absolutely love it. It's so bright and cheery, and it gives me something lovely to look at when I'm working at my desk.

2  Amelia Raitte's Cherry in Banana in Knitting: Completed Projects by virginiawoolf on: June 04, 2007 06:04:49 PM
Here she is!

Gratuitous posing shot:

The yarn is Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Banana. The colour varies depending on what light its in...it ranges from a pearly yellow to a bright sunshiny colour. Yummy.

I had a bit of a debacle with the buttons...I fell in love with these tiny pearl buttons that were never going to hold the whole thing together. After trying many different snap combos--all of which buckled and bunched and looked hideous--I had a brainwave. Velcro! That's right, my cardi is held together with velcro...the buttons are just decorative.

I hope you like my Cherry! I sure do.

3  Fair Isle Heart Sweater from knit.1 in Knitting: Completed Projects by virginiawoolf on: February 21, 2007 03:03:03 PM
Behold: the Fair Isle Heart Sweater from the cover of December's knit.1!

Yoke detail:

I made some modifications to the original pattern: I lengthened the sleeves and made them puffy, changed the neckline, added waist shaping, and took out the deep ribbing. The Yarn is Merino et Soie.

I'm pretty proud of this little baby, even though it makes me look a tad bulky around the midsection (you can't really tell in the photo).

I hope you like it!

4  Re: reading is sexy round 4 in The Swap Gallery by virginiawoolf on: February 07, 2007 10:03:48 AM

I am belatedly posting the wonderful goodies I got from janeausten!

Here is the whole shebang:

A lovely T-shirt (it fits perfetcly, janeausten) that says "I read dead people"
A set of magnets featuring Winnie the Pooh characters, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and the first words of Pride and Prejudice
A beautiful decoupaged journal with Elizabeth Bennett, Mr. Darcy, and Shakespeare sonnets
Not 2, not 3, but 4 bookmarks (a book thong, one that she wrote all of my favourite authours on, Harry Potter, and "If only Mr. Darcy were real")
And lovely Bookplates.

plus! A bonus gift of old school library cards.

Close up of magnet set, Mr. Darcy on the journal, and my favouritebook plate. (It says "Books are for the mind what wine is to the body."

Sorry for the poor quality pics--they don't do janeausten's work justice! Thank you so much!

5  Re: My new winter hat (laden with photos) in Knitting: Completed Projects by virginiawoolf on: November 27, 2006 07:33:10 AM

So, I have been looking for an original pattern for a new winter hat, and how_german totally inspired me. My yarn is a little chunkier, and I liked the buttery yellow colour of hers...but, I needed something to go with my fire-engine red winter coat. I plan to add a little embellishment to the front of it to fancy it up a tad.

Here she blows! Please excuse the totally over-exposed/low quality pics...I only have access to my crappy in-computer camera.

...and a happy shot of the hat in action.

Thanks for the idea, how_german!

7  Two different ways to warm your bosoms in Knitting: Completed Projects by virginiawoolf on: August 03, 2006 07:08:04 PM
In a recent post, mcekar very astutely pointed out that the"boobholder" trend seems to be waning. So, I decided to post my two boob-holder-esque things that I have made this summer before they become completely passe!

Behold, my first FO post.... some lovely boob-holders (or, as I call them, bosom-warmers).

Yet another anthropologie-inspired caplet... I couldn't resist.

For some reason, my computer reversed the image...but I am wearing my favourite "Reading is Sexy" t-shirt.

The Cressida Lace Shrug from ohmystars.net.

I got a pound of this lavender cotton yarn for $6!

I'm apparently very pleased with myself. Smiley

Thanks for looking!
