1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Turkish Cast On on: May 19, 2010 10:01:47 PM
so I'm working on knitty's Duck pattern, which is extremely cute by the way, and it's my first sock-like piece.

anyway, the pattern uses a turkish cast on, which i was able to navigate pretty easily. i'm working the pattern with dpns, and i used the video on the designer's blog that someone had made of how to easily convert the cast on. it made sense, but now there are gaps in my knitting on the left side of each turkish cast on.  Undecided i've tried knitting it tighter, making sure the added stitches are close to the established stitches, but nothing seems to help it.
is it just one of those things that comes with the cast on, or do any regular sock knitters out there have any tips?

thanks for the help!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Second Hat Ever! Gemma Beret on: February 01, 2009 01:43:04 PM
Hi! I've been a bit of a lurker for quite a while, but I've finally got something finished that I want to share. I've been knitting on and off for a couple years, but I've been more committed these past few months. I tried to make most of my friends' Christmas presents. Needless to say, many of them are on an IOU list, but hey, I guess I won't be bored for a while. I finished a few of them, but they were finished in such a rush that I didn't get to take pictures. Maybe I can track them down and post 'em soon.

Anyway, this one was for my big sis. She wanted a slouchy hat, so I used the Gemma Beret pattern from Rowan.
I cast on in the round w/ dpns (the pattern is written to be knit up flat), and I heard that the hat as written came out super large, so I reduced the number of stitches and basically had to edit the pattern a whole lot as I went. Since this is my second hat and first major pattern manipulation, you can see just why I'm so proud of it!

sorry about image quality! the pics were taken by phone

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / marching band section gifts on: August 02, 2006 05:26:50 PM
so im one of the leaders this year for marching band, and my fellow leaders and i are gonna have our first section meeting soon. Shocked

we want some kind of little, cheap gift bags to give out to everyone, with maybe a little somethinge extra for the freshmen.

i was thinking small paper bags with music notes stenciled on the outside or something, but im just not sure what to have in the bag.

any tips?
