11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Hammered and Oxidized! (Well, some of them are oxidized.) on: August 06, 2007 03:32:45 PM
your earrings are fantastic! the whole egg-boiling method of oxidizing the metal is really interesting and pretty cool!

i know you said you used 20 gauge wire, but i'm wondering if it's just regular sterling silver wire....see, i have a problem that whenever i try to do "fun" things with wire--like using a jig or something (excluding wire wrapping, i guess) i end up bending the wire unintentionally--usually after i'm finished and trying to wear it.

i guess what i'm asking is, how strong is the wire? will the earrings get bent out of shape easily?

as a lover of patchwork skirts (especially cute shorter versions--as apposed to long flowy "hippie" patchwork skirts, which i also like, but you know...), your skirt if fabulous!!! i love that you used recycled fabrics too! fantastic!

15  UNITED STATES / Hawaii / Re: great places to get cool supplies and what-not on oahu on: August 01, 2007 08:10:25 AM
rad kit, i don't live in hawaii anymore, but a few years back (maybe in 2004 or 2005) before Ben Franklin began carrying better knitting supplies (like bamboo needles, not yarn) I went to a place in a highrise in chinatown, Isle Knit, i think it was called.

This is the address and phone number: Isle Knit 1188 Bishop St Ste 1403 Phone: (808) 533-0853 (so you can call to see if it's still there, or if they have what you want) it was a very tiny place, and i didn't buy yarn the one time i went there, so i'm not really sure of the selection.

also, there's a group called Aloha Knitters (they used to be a SNB), they have a myspace page, and i'm sure you could find good shops through them: aloha knitters: http://www.myspace.com/alohaknitters

hope that helps....(oh, have to tried walmart? i remember that the walmart near ala moana would have ok yarn (in the fall/winter)

winter83, i totally agree, i don't think it was actually the "brand company" doing this--as i never heard a thing from the corporate offices.
20  UNITED STATES / Maryland / Re: Columbia / Howard County on: June 10, 2007 11:03:43 AM
I just moved to the area less than a year ago, but have found that all you have to do is drive down Rt 1, running between RT175 and 198 in Laurel. There is a goodwill, salvo, laurel thrift store, a few antique shops (There are also quite a few antique/consignment shops on Main Street in Laurel, which if you're on Rt.1, you will pass Main St). there is also a fairly large thrift store on Route 198 (it's at the corner of 198 and 197) but i can't think of the name of it. (Village thrift maybe?)

hope that helps. Smiley
