Here are some ornaments I cross stitched in early Jan.
And here is a blast from the past! Its Star Lite, Rainbow Brite's trusty horse friend. Embroidered on a lightweight canvas material using transfer pencils and worked totally in satin and backstitching.
Close up of tail details.
I think this is going to be made into a wall hanging for my 2 year old cousin. Found a wonderful rainbow fabric a couple weeks ago at Jackman's Fabrics.
Anyone interested in a heart swap? Hearts of any kind are invited....cute Valentiney ones, broken ones, hell, even anatomical ones! Its getting close to "V" Day....so anyone looking for a little heart swap goodness?
I am a rabid fan of this show and watch my DVD sets all the time (as often as "Firefly"! ) . The antics of JD, Turk, Elliott, Cox, etc. keeps me rolling and makes me laugh like no other sitcom ever has.
Does anyone else feel the same? Anyone interested in getting the crafty juices flowing and see what kinds of ideas can emerge from this awesome show? Post here and let me know! If I can get enough interest, this swap can come true!
I've been browsing the "My Country Doesn't Have That" gallery for some time now and I got to thinking. Just in the USA alone, there is quite a diversity between the different regions- East Coast, Southern, Midwest, Texas (hehe), Southwest, West Coast, and Northwest. Also, Hawaii and Alaska. And even then, there are many different regional things in each. New York City and Philly is vastly different from St. Louis or Memphis, or even Chicago! And....LA...well, to a midwestern girl like myself it seems to be an enitrely different world! All of these regions and cities have local things, places, foods that they are proud of and may not be available in the rest of the US.
For Example: Ive heard several times that my hometown of St. Louis is one of the only places in the US that BBQs Pork Steaks and also has an obsession with Gooey Butter Coffee Cake. While sending a BBQed pork steak may not be an option, a recipie might be!
So, basically, what I was thinking was is there an interest in doing a "My Region Doesn't Have That! " or "Regional Pride" swap? I think it would have to be among US swappers at first, unless mutiple people from the same country outside the US signed up (and they could be partnered). Things swapped would be produced or even first introduced in your city/state/region.
On Tuesday, my best friend since the 4th grade (thats 16 years!) called and told me her boyfriend proposed Sunday (July 24)...and they are getting married in October! I so want to make them something.
I thought about doing what I had done for another of my friends....shadow box with the invite in it, but I dont know if she is doing much in the way of invites....she doesnt want anything big or fancy. -_-
So, I've thought about etched wineglasses and a nice bottle of local wine (they live in Seattle now and he is from Canada). But I dunno. I feel like whatever I give her needs to be extra special and something she will use and not just hold onto because it came from me.
I'm going to Seattle on the 1st (trip planned long before proposal) and will see what they have in person (and meet him!)....but anyone here have any ideas?
Alright, this is the deal. 2 of my fave people from work have some very important events going on in their lives right now. One, Josie, is leaving us (in St Louis) to move closer to her mother in Utah. Her last day here is June 27th. Another, Kristi, is almost 5 months preggers. Ok, so us girls at work want to throw a going away party for Josie, but Josie wanted to have a baby shower for Kristi before leaving. (Keeping up?)
So we set aside the 26th of June and reserve a nice-sized pavillion at a park. In order to keep an element of surprise for both of the girls we have decided to tell each that the party is actually for the other. (Tell Josie it is a shower for Kristi, and Kristi that it is a party for Josie).
Alright, I want to decorate this pavillion up....but how do we blend a baby shower with a going away/good luck party? We know we are going to buy 2 small cakes for them, and I've decided to get 2 small balloon boquets to go on the table with the cakes, but any other ideas floating around out there?
Josie really loves Care Bears, so with her I'm leaning on more of a "Good Luck" Bear theme.....but Kristi is doing her baby stuff in Pooh (tho, for the shower I'm thinking of using a more genaric theme as I have seen an adorable one to use). I'm pretty sure Kristi will have a more formal shower later down the road.
Alright, so I bought one of those $4ish blank sketchbook/journals from Border's bargain book area. I have big plans for this little book, but first I want to find a way to alter the covers. Right now the covers are plain black, kind of a fabric-like surface. I am guessing it is canvas. (If anyone know what books I am talking about, speak up!) I want to re-cover the book, but am unsure what kinds of materials I can use...adhesives and stuff.
