81  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / spicing up a plain hobo with an applique?? on: June 12, 2006 10:10:54 PM
so all the purses i've made all have some sort of print or pattern on the fabric so there really is no need for any other decoration. but a few days ago i found this GORGEOUS coral-dark pink colored fabric with just a little bit of texture, it's kinda like that dark pink on some dooney and bourke handbags. i want to make a big hobo bag out of it with some cute little applique on the corner of it. problem is, i've never tried an applique before and i don't know what would be easy and how to do one. do you guys have any suggestions for a cute, summery applique that would be cute with this color? i was thinking maybe a pair of flipflops but i hae no idea how i'd go about that. oh, and by the way, i also have this pretty lime green and bright orange fabric i could use for the applique. and if you could tell me HOW to do your suggestion, that would be GREAT. thank you!!!!

this is my "life is a bowl of cherries" cargo-pocket purse. it came out a little too big, but i am pretty happy with how the pockets came out. they took longer than the actual purse did.

a closeup of one of the pockets on the cherry purse. =)

this is my cute little pink cherry raspberry watermelon purse! i found the ribbon and the rings for the strap at walmart, i dont think that's what they were originally for but i thought it'd be cute.
this is a reversible tote that i made for my mom (forgot to edit my boyfriend's tummy out of the picture haha sorry!), the inside is the froggies with the blue bubbles on the pocket. she LOOVES it, and i was quite shocked at how cute it came out.

these were the first 3 purses i made. the outside 2 are from patterns, the middle one is the first one i figured out on my own.

so what do you guys think?? i also made a my little pony tote bag but i've gotta iron it before i post it (accident with raspberry iced tea, washing, and mistake of putting it in the dryer lol). i also made a lady bug wallet that i'll post soon. i think i'm obsessed lol

hey guys, i'm working on my 4th purse (just purchased my first sewing machine about 2 weeks ago - but i've been hand sewing for a million years), and i want it to have a gaZILLION pockets. i wanted these fat square pockets on the front and sides. i cut out a square, and then about a 2inch wide strip of fabric and sewed it around the sides and bottom or the square (to give the pocket depth, like a cargo pocket) but now my problem is, how do i sew it to the handbag without the seams showing? i was going to try sewing the seams inward, so they'd be inside the pocket, but it doesn't seem possible once you've got 2 of the sides sewn down. how can i do this attractively??? this is really baffling me and i would be SOOO thankful for help!!!!
