i don't know if anyone else does this... but i was walking through walmart and i have this habit of looking at purses in stores and online and stuff and thinking "how could i make this" or "i could so make this cuter", and i've been looking for a wallet to attempt cuz i've only made one and well even though ive been using it, i knew i could do better. so i found this bifold wallet at walmart that looked really simple, 2 money-size pockets and it had like 16-18 credit card slots, which was perfect, cuz i have a lot of useless crap i insist on lugging around lol. soo i measured it (after a weird convo with my boyfriend LOL, he was standing next to me and i was like, "i wish i could measure this" so he goes, "well let's go to the school supplies aisle and get a ruler" and i was like, "are you sure?? we can do that?" and he says, "it's not like you're stealing it, come on!" LOL) and figured out how to do it... and tada! instead of hemming it and turning it inside out (big mistake on first wallet), i bordered it with red satin ribbon (just seemed so much prettier than bias tape), and i added a little iron on applique, because i didn't feel there were enough cherries on the fabric itself lol... now i'll shut up and show you!
and this is the inside, each side has 8 credit card slots.
its super easy, if you guys want the dimensions of the pattern let me know!
i believe these are some of my best. this first one was a request from a girl that works with my boyfriend. he showed her one of my already made purses, and she went and bought the fabric she wanted, along with a zipper and asked me to do an inside zipper pocket (this was a first, so i was scared but now i'm quite happy with the result). the fabric is a pretty lilac with japanese writing and flowers on it, soo here it is....
and my first zippered inside pocket...
now this second one was my attempt at the famous tinafish slouchy hobo. the bag is actually a surprise for my best friend who's having a baby that i haven't seen in months, but i get to see her tomorrow, and this fabric was just SO her, so i hope she likes it...
now this last one was totally a make-up-as-you-go bag. it wasn't originally supposed to look like this at all, but my main goal was to make it pink and black, and i did! the posie was a little kit from joann's that was on sale for like 20 cents (it was actually the whole reason i wanted to make a pink and black bag LOL) i loove this one, but i'm afraid to use it cuz i don't wanna screw it up lol.
the fabric i think is some sort of satin or silk, im not sure, the wrong side is really soft like flannel, i bought like 3 yards of it planning to make pajama pants but a purse just seemed so much more fun....
the view of the lining, a black twill fabric, I LOVE IT, and the velcro closure..
and another picture of the pleated tote with the matching zipper pouch wallet i whipped up to go with it. =)
this purse was inspired by an ad for makeitu.com in the sew simple magazine, i found similar fabric by accident and i was like AHH! lol so i made up my own pattern basically by taking a piece of paper and cutting it the way i wanted the purse to be shaped... and there were a lot of firsts with this bag, like the metal rings on the straps and i finally learned how to attach and use the ZIPPER foot! that's the best thing in the world! and i found out how awesome bias tape is!!! but anyway, here's my new fat pink hobooo...
from the front...
a crappy one from the side
and my lining with the contrasting heart-shaped-pink-bias-taped-pocket!
soo i bought this handbag book and saw all these cluthes in there and i thought HOWW CUUUTTEE and then i thought.. hey!! they would make a really FAT cute wallet!!! hahaha that was before i realized how big they actually turn out. so i made this cute little thing:
complete with 12 credit card slots:
and this thing gave me HELL. i was ready to throw my sewing machine out the window. i used this neon pink thread and it was the kind that my machine doesn't like (for some reason it doesn't get along too well with the threads that aren't smooth or shiny, if that makes any sense). my seam ripper became my best friend though. but anyway, i'm thinking maybe add a strap to it and call it a wallet and purse in one? or what? what can i do with this thing? i love how it came out, i just want to make it useable lol.
this is my "life is a bowl of cherries" cargo-pocket purse. it came out a little too big, but i am pretty happy with how the pockets came out. they took longer than the actual purse did.
a closeup of one of the pockets on the cherry purse. =)
this is my cute little pink cherry raspberry watermelon purse! i found the ribbon and the rings for the strap at walmart, i dont think that's what they were originally for but i thought it'd be cute. this is a reversible tote that i made for my mom (forgot to edit my boyfriend's tummy out of the picture haha sorry!), the inside is the froggies with the blue bubbles on the pocket. she LOOVES it, and i was quite shocked at how cute it came out.
these were the first 3 purses i made. the outside 2 are from patterns, the middle one is the first one i figured out on my own.
so what do you guys think?? i also made a my little pony tote bag but i've gotta iron it before i post it (accident with raspberry iced tea, washing, and mistake of putting it in the dryer lol). i also made a lady bug wallet that i'll post soon. i think i'm obsessed lol
