21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: The Great UK Round-Robin Journal Swap Gallery! on: January 20, 2007 09:20:06 AM
It's wonderful to see all the lovely work people have done, and I'm looking forward particularly to seeing the photos from pinkangel and Jill, as those were the first journals I had, and there wasn't much in them yet.

It wasn't to tease people that I only posted half the pics; the journal is bigger than my scanner, so I have to do two scans each time and then stick them together - it gets tedious!

It was interesting working in such different size books - I think rhicoo and I had the biggest ones, but differently laid out, perhaps uluru's was the smallest.  A different challenge each time.

First pics have gone up in the UK Gallery!

Here we go!  Lucky me, I was the first to get my journal back, and I had designed it to include exactly the same number of spreads as participants, so it is FULL of gorgeousness!  Now I need to design cover art worthy of the contents!

First of all, here is my contribution, the title page, with sign-in envelopes - each person has done a little card with photo and bio, and I won't be putting those on the web, obviously, but you can see the noses peeking out!  I just used the six colours of the rainbow as my theme, hence the name of the journal.

And then the spreads - people were free to pick whichever colour they fancied, although obviously the choices got fewer as the swap progressed - sorry pinkangel! Smiley

RED - by rhicooqui

ORANGE - by Jill-of-all-trades

YELLOW - by phizzychick

GREEN - by uluru

BLUE - by pinkangel79

PURPLE - by bushbaby

This is actually an even more intense purple; I tweaked it slightly lighter so you could see the lovely stitching better.

What a treasure - thank you everyone!

Pretty crazy here in London too, but fortunately I'm too big to blow away (6'2", 13 stone) so I made it to the post office and sent off uluru's tiny journal.  Neighbours have a tree down and some of their fence, we just had a little damage to some old garden trellis which was probably rotten anyway.  Calming down a bit now too.

Don't feel bad, inherited stash stuff is great - I'm still working through all the buttons and sewing threads my granny left me, and she wasn't even all that "crafty", just well organised.  Used so much of them on a show I costumed last May, that we opened champagne to toast Granny on what would have been her 100th birthday, even though she passed away in 1995.  And I have lots of good memories as well as buttons!

Good news girls - especially uluru - I've finished my last spread and will post tomorrow!  Glue is drying, after that I just need to put my name inside the cover and we're done!

Yes, I swiped that little envelope idea for the inside front cover of my book too - can't wait to see what everyone has done with it.  And listen to Phizzy about decorating covers - that was one funky journal she sent around!

Yes, that was my idea too, to have the UK journals going round the USA and vice-versa - I'm sure Phizzy and I can organise half the world if we put our minds to it!  And the postage doesn't work out expensive if you are sensible about the size of the journals (we said between A4 and A6, which is 8.5"x11" maximum, down to 4.3"x5.5" minimum) and add heavy things you love after the journal gets home again.  Also, because you are only mailing out every two or three weeks, not every day, it comes down to less than a dollar a week, I estimate.

We used very general themes - three people just said pick a colour, one did Lost and Found, one gave a LONG list of things she liked that we could pick from, others left it open what you did - but the letters and numbers sounds fun to me - will try not to crib too much from the Alphabetica book, which adorns my bookshelf too!
