61  Vogue 2745: bias-cut knee length dress in Sewing Pattern Reviews by avsceriline on: May 11, 2005 09:42:51 AM
Try to disregard the wrinkle-y-ness...I was too lazy to press it properly for this picture. It's a nice med. weight green satin, a little lighter than in the picture, and it's all cut on the bias. It feels wonderful, and it's a dream to wear. Smiley

Like most Vogue patterns, though, it was difficult and the finishing details were impractical and nearly impossible. 1/8" rolled hems on EVERY PIECE? NO FACINGS? What the heck were they thinking? And the boobs are pointy! Last time I checked, mine aren't. I'm going to fix that before I actually wear it. Other than that, though, I'm quite pleased.

The hem is asymmetrical, that's not just from the angle the picture was shot. And you can't quite see it, but there are installed pieces on the side of the skirt. Godets, if you will. They were very tricky, but ended up looking great.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone with a good amount of sewing experience. Good luck, and let me know what you think!

62  Vintage Fabric Purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by avsceriline on: November 07, 2004 07:20:07 AM
For my birthday this year, my mom got me some really cool fabric scraps off of Ebay. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything that used such a small amount of fabric and turned out to be a reasonable size. And then, lo and behold...

I absolutely adore it.  Grin

Technical info: It's about 11.5" tall (including handles) and 10.5" wide...just big enough to be useful. It has a small pocket in the inside perfect for holding ID, etc. I did a blanket stitch at the top (with black embroidery floss)and lined it in an orange leafy fabric. I got the handles for about $3 at some craft store. Hooray for vintage!

64  Re:SECRET VALENTINO!!! in The Swap Gallery by avsceriline on: February 19, 2004 07:38:03 PM
YAAY! After a mix-up with my package being sent to another building on campus, I recieved my Secret Valentino gifts. It was totally worth the wait!!

Clockwise from top left: very cool fuzzy green bag with daffodil, super cute brown cord hat!, and two magnets (they say "Men Suck" and "No Way").
The background of the image is the lining for the bag.
I LOVE the fabrics, Kristina! How unusual!
I actually have that brown cordoroy...and I'm in the process of making myself a peacoat out of it. Now I'll have a set! How awesome is that?
I've worn the bag and hat out already and have recieved many compliments. Thank you so much! You made a wonderful Valentino Grin

65  Re:secret santa goodies - THE RESULTS! in Discussion and Questions by avsceriline on: January 11, 2004 04:21:23 PM
I got my Secret Santa gift a while ago, but was on vacation so I didn't have time to post.

THANK YOU, ELLEN! I love my new mittens (playfully dubbed my 'macaroni mittens' because of their color). I have already worn them about a zillion times. Thank you so much! My secret santa rocks!
