1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What are the warmest socks you've ever knitted? on: January 16, 2007 12:33:23 PM
Hi everyone,

I need some advice.  I get really, really cold feet.  They turn a little black, actually.  So I need to knit the warmest socks possible.  Can anyone suggest a pattern, or particular stich or yarn that would make my socks extra warm?

Thanks!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Polka dot needle case on: January 04, 2007 01:54:06 PM
My knitting needles desperately needed a home, so I made a needle case.  It's loosely based on the "roll your own" case in Stitch 'n Bitch, but I made the pattern myself to fit my own needles.  I think next time I'll just have a fold-over flap instead of sewing on a separate piece.  The outside is thrifted wool fabric, and the inside is polka dot fabric that I had lying around.  The outside wool fabric seems to give it a lot of structure even without many needles in.  Feel free to move this post if it's in the wrong place.  It's knitting and bag related, so I didn't know where to put it...

Hope you like it!

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Anyone done Knitty's "Red Herring"? Fair Isle help please! on: November 27, 2006 10:45:18 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm completely baffled by the herringbone pattern on the "Red Herring" socks in the Knitty Fall 06 issue. What technique do I use to make the pattern?  Do I carry both colours along the back of the work, and twist them when I need to change the colour?

Thanks!

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Blank Slate Hand Warmers (now with pattern) on: November 22, 2006 05:02:36 PM
http://static.flickr.com/99/303865504_f21dff9fae_o.jpg

I've finally finished the pattern for these plain hand warmers.  I really wanted some plain ones, that I could easily add designs to.  Hence the "blank slate".  I've actually only finished one hand warmer so far.  I will do the other one eventually, but I'm a bit over knitting after the drama of figuring out which bind off to use.  In the end, I settled on this one http://www.socknitters.com/Tips/stretchy.htm.  It has just the right amount of stretch.

The shaping is really simple - just a thumb gusset.

It's summer down here in NZ, so who knows why I'm knitting hand warmers.  I guess I'll be well prepared for next winter!

I'm happy to write up the pattern if anyone wants it...  I'd do it now, but I'm hanging out for lazy afternoon nap Smiley
5  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Anyone from Dunedin? on: October 22, 2006 03:47:15 PM
Hi everyone,

Is anyone out there living in Dunedin?  I'm moving down there in a couple of weeks, and I really want to find some other crafty people.  Does anyone know if there is a Stitch 'n Bitch group in Dunedin?  And where are the cool places to go?  Not just for craft supplies, but for gigs, food etc etc.

Thanks!

Julia
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Pleated Shoulder Bag on: October 22, 2006 03:38:06 PM
I just finished this pleated shoulder bag.  The outside is black wool fabric from an op-shop, and the whole thing probably cost about $5.  And that's NZ dollars!  I used tiny happy's excellent shoulder bag tutorial as the basis for the pattern, and added a pleated panel.

The outside: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bessie-s/276641421/
And the lining: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bessie-s/276641050/in/photostream/

Thanks for looking!
7  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Knitting Groups in Wellington on: June 13, 2006 01:08:03 PM
Hi everyone,

I know that this has been asked before, but does anyone know of any knitting groups in Wellington?  I know about the one that Knit World runs, but I've heard rumours of others...
