1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / hand sewing a hem for a grade = CATASTROPHIC! on: December 22, 2006 12:27:54 PM
so.  here's the situation.

i'm taking clothing construction for my elective in school, and i'm making a black pencil skirt.  i'm SO close to being done - today i sewed on the hem tape and folded it under and pinned it, so all that's left to do is to handsew it there.  my teacher showed me a few of the stitches and then let me take it home to wear for christmas... but the problem is that i can't figure out the stitch now!!

it had something to do with locking the thread, and she said you use your thumb to pull the thread over at like a 90 degree angle (or something...) sorry i'm not descriptive!  i neeeed to get this thing done and i'm soo stuck... pleeease help!!!  if anyone can even describe using pictures that would be AMAZING !!!  once i finish i'm going to post pics under "completed projects" so keep an eye out if you can help me!! thanks sooo much!!!

3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Suggest New Boards and New Features / Completed Projects/ Questions for Designer Homage under Clothing? on: August 03, 2006 02:35:01 PM
Hey everyone,

I love fashion, but I'm not able to pay the extreme prices attached with many designer pieces.  That's why I love seeing how people recreate their favorite designer fashions on craftster - the problem is that Designer Homage has been basically taken over by questions and calls for help on potential projects.  I would love to help with these, but I'm not skilled enough to help these people at all.  I'm sure there are many people in my boat who would also like to organize a bit more by having separate "Completed Projects" and "Questions and Help" boards within the Designer Homage board.  What does everyone think?

that dress is nicole miller.. cute choice!

i'm sorry to say that i don't know enough about sewing to give you any guidance in that respect... but hopefully someone will come on here and help you out.  i sympathize... i've been dying for a response to my recent post and still haven't gotten any help Sad

good luck with the dress!

WOW!!

i definitely like yours better...the sweetheart neckline is ADORABLE, and not only does the shape itself give the dress the designer look, but your fabric looks just like diane von furstenburgs!  great job!!

and tutes would be greatly appreciated Wink

i am totally in love with this dress - i want to make it over the summer (since i still have a lot to learn about sewing) and wear it to homecoming.  any ideas about how i could make it?  thanks so much!
