141  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: iron recommendations? on: August 22, 2006 10:31:29 AM
Whenever I look for any new appliance, I go straight to Consumer Reports.  It hasn't failed me yet Wink.
142  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 13! on: August 22, 2006 10:16:22 AM
I had posted previously about some fabric I received from Rosali.  I especially loved the little mushroom fabric she sent me, and although I had asked for "quilting cottons" specifically, this fabric just screamed at me to make it into a little purse.  Voila:

I hope it is OK to post this here.  I didn't receive the purse in the swap, but I did receive the fabric, so I thought it would be OK.  Plus, I wanted Rosali to see it Wink

I received some notecards (and matching envelopes!) from Lol Stein a few days ago.  I asked for them because I write to my sisters.  So I got girly and family themed cards.  Awesome.

I can't give a tutorial at the moment because I am all out of jeans!  All I did though was sew the bottom like a Jordy (with little squares cut out the bottome).  Then I added the flap and straps and sewed in a lining.  Super easy.

I got a package from Rosali today and I can't believe she stuffed so many goodies in such a teeny tiny box!!

I especially love the blue fabric with the tiny mushrooms.  And the sushi print!  And I can't wait to try to make some plushies with that maroon felt!!!  (so many exclamation points!).

Thank you so much.
146  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap 13! on: August 14, 2006 01:20:30 PM
I claim Kristen81 for quilt blocks.  This is my third wish.  My first two have been received.

I am in the United States.  Virginia, to be exact.

Supplies:

-Purse Handles.  All my purses have fabric handles that I make and I'm dying to try out some nice non-fabric handles.

-Quilting Cottons.  I love scraps of all sizes.  I also love reproduction (and vintage) fabrics of all kinds.  Civil War era, 1930s, 1960s - you name it!

-Clothing Patterns.  I've only ever made baby clothes, but those were without a pattern.  I'd really like to be able to make clothes for my little boy (who is almost a year), so baby and kids clothes patterns would be great.

-Ribbons.  All kinds.  All sizes.

Crafty Goodness:

-Pretty Little Magnets.  My fridge has a mish mash of ugly, free magnets.  I would love a set of little ones in blue, so they actually coordinate with my kitchen!  Maybe something like this: http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=313652

-Homemade Soap.  I'm dying to try some.  Floral or fruity scent.

-A butterfly Necklace like this one: http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=195658

-A wallet like this one: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=86021.msg811021#msg811021

- A knitted hat for me like this one: http://www.sandrisuperstar.com/gallery/albums/knitties/IMG_1380.jpg.  Or maybe one for for my son, who is currently 10 months old (will be older in winter!).

-A bracelet like this one: http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=341066 or this one: http://www.etsy.com/view_item_sold_anon.php?listing_id=234581&transaction_id=79144

About me: I'm 28 and have been married for 4+ years.  I have a 10-month old son and am a stay-at-home mom.  I used to work as an engineer and then as a teacher.  Now I'm tutoring and crafting to bring in some money.  I love reading, quilting, dancing, singing, and music in general!

Last weekend, I went shopping at a discount clothing store. I was browsing through the petite section when I found a size 24, irregular, pair of Liz Claiborne jeans for $2.99. They must have been reduced at least four times - I couldn't even remove all of the stickers to see the original price! It was such a good price and such a nice, lightweight denim that I had to buy them and give them new life:

I'm very pleased with how this turned out.  You can read about the whole process here: http://www.kcquilts.com/blog/2006/08/bridesmaid-dress-revisited.html
