11  jacques tati/puppy love! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by subliminalrabbit on: August 02, 2006 06:56:37 PM
i just adore jacques tati's work - i think he's absolutely brilliant and so funny.  i was wracking my brain trying to figure out what to stencil next - and what DVD to drop in while i was stencilling - and it hit me:

who can resist a cute lil duchshund?

close-up!

what i learned from this project:
1. don't stencil on a textured shirt unless you want the paint to be textured and bleed a bit on the edges.  yuck.
2. don't stencil on a shirt that's begun to pill.  double yuck.

i love this stencil so much that i'm going to put it on a better shirt - but i need to cut a new one because i inadvertently melted the first!  ah well.

comments most appreciated.  Smiley

12  yo-ho! in celebration of the pirate in Stenciling: Completed Projects by subliminalrabbit on: July 07, 2006 12:36:56 PM
i just couldn't let an event like the launch of a pirates movie go by without a little celebratory t-shirtness.  i stayed up late wednesday night to cut the stencil and paint these so that my friend and i can wear them to a screening tonight.  poor girl;  she has no idea what i'm about to force her to do!

simple, straightforward, iconic (from the stencilry):

close up on my shirt - excuse the flash reflection on the metallic paint!

this one is for my friend and required a bazillion coats

i hope i'm not the only one taking advantage of this great excuse to make a pirate shirt - or two!

(comments welcomed, loved, adored.  ha!)

13  charlotte from rowan 38 in Knitting: Completed Projects by subliminalrabbit on: June 27, 2006 01:18:56 PM
first knit post!

yummy rowan ribbon twist!

i knit this one up over the winter, but it hasn't really been a good temperature to wear until now - in a/c'd buildings and the evenings (LA isn't the best locale for a knitter).  i love love love it.  has anyone else knit this?

(apologies for the low-res cell phone shot.)

product shot here.

14  why, it's TOTORO! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by subliminalrabbit on: June 27, 2006 01:06:54 PM

who is this?  why, it's totoro!

let's take a closer look.

this is my first non-geometric stencil, and i'm really happy with how it turned out.  i'm covering all my old rags with stencils - time to spruce up the wardrobe!

comments appreciated (and again, apologies for the low-res camera phone).   Smiley

15  **Duran Duran** bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by subliminalrabbit on: June 15, 2006 09:06:03 AM
this one took me a while to complete...  because i wanted to find the perfect handles.  i finally came across some faux-leather ones just the right size when i was browsing joann's (40% off coupon!). without further ado... the Duran Duran bag:

one way...

or the other!

it's quite a bit glossier than you can tell from this photos - camera phone, sorry!  (low resolution too.)

materials: CD liner notes (Duran Duran's Wedding Album), duct tape, electrical tape, modge podge, handles, and a little nylon thread

let me know what you think!

16  **Tom Waits** wrist cuff in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by subliminalrabbit on: June 05, 2006 01:12:37 PM
well, i decided to take a short break from the wallet/bag/ipod cozy kick i've been on of late (yes, and the poor neglected half-knit sweaters and tanks strewn about my apartment) for a nice quick fix:

*clicky for bigger pics*

please excuse the poor photo resolution - all i've got is my camera phone right now.

materials:  liner notes (used songs), electrical tape, modge podge, and ribbon

i've rocked this twice already since construction on saturday morning and i love it!

**has anyone ever used fabric-backed tape for this kind of thing?  does it absorb so much sweat that it gets smelly?

17  iPod cozy from CD liner notes - first post in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by subliminalrabbit on: May 30, 2006 06:23:01 PM
hi everyone,

this is my first post but i've been lurking for some time...  i'm so often inspired/excited by what i see on here.  i finally got up the courage to share one of my projects.  please excuse the resolution of the photos - i've had to use my phone.

introducing...  iPod cozy reconstructed from liner notes, duct tape, a plastic badge holder, ribbon, and a random fastening!

(you can click on the thumbnails for a larger view.)

the colors are truly a bit brighter but you get the idea.  let me know what you think!

(the liner notes are from the dollyrots' eat my heart out.)
