1  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / From old coat parts to mocassins...a birthday present on: August 03, 2009 07:18:55 PM
So my aunt's birthday is today, and my uncle asked if I'd take the old parts of a coat he found and turn into a pair of moccasins (spelling?) for her.
He had a tute - it was more like you had to be a psychic to understand the thing - from a 70's Reader's Digest book, kinda like the 'Disney's boy scout manual' thing. After trying hard to solve the instructions (and I'm a blond!), I came up with a pattern using my aunt's boot sole for the size (it was a surprise gift).

Well it was a challenge to figure out where to cut the pattern, because the coat parts were almost a patchwork. Huh When I was sewing the calf part, there was some old leather and it started to tear where the needle was sewing. Undecided

I broke 3 needles, and had to finish the last foot by hand. And when the third needle broke and I was taking it out, half of it dropped inside the machine, so now I have to open it to retrieve it.

Oh well. It isn't heard to make, once you get the hang of it - or choose a fabric that your machine will handle. If someone wants, I can come up with a tutorial.

Please don't mind the crappy phone camera pictures, my camera died a long time ago.

And they look better in person. I had to apply another patch on the calf area to make it stronger.

Hi there

First post here. ^^ Been reading and reading around for ages.  Wink

A friend of mine wanted to get rid of some old clothes, including this nice red skirt with embroidered flowers.
So I took it to myself and being sick at home today, besides cooking a great lunch for myself I decided to make something outta it.
This is what I got.
