1  Enter the Dragon. in Needlework: Completed Projects by NixArmageddon on: April 29, 2008 08:30:22 AM
I made this embroidery specifically for a swap all about tattoos. My partner had two dragon tattoos and I knew I had to include one in my package. I have never tackled something like this before so I was more than a little nervous about it. I am so so happy with th way it turned out. I was unsure if you would be able to tell what it was when it was finished, but TA-DA you can!

Sadly this is the only photo I managed to snap before I sent the package out to my partner.

Ok, here we go. This is going to be photo-obese. I received so many awesome things.

This is a decorative hanging bottle. It has a image of the Virgin of Guadeloupe as a skeleton and some amazing bead work.

This is some repurposed jewelry made with traditional tattoo images and bottle caps. Also I think that's an cellphone charm. (With the dragon.)

Included in this is a pendant I'm going to put on a silver chain, a wee pillow magnet with a sacred heart on it, a super hot wooden box with a sexy skull lady on it (and it's funny because I sent her something very very similar), and a Davey Jones anchor/skull handbag!

This is a night light lamp made with some traditional tattoo fabric. It looks so cool lit up.

My favorite! The sugar skull t-shirt. I couldn't get a decent picture though. I was too excited.

This was Christina's first swap and she was an amazing partner!!!!

3  Re: Tattoo Swap (Signup 03/13/08-03/25/08; Sendouts by 04/25/08) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by NixArmageddon on: March 18, 2008 05:56:22 AM
Showing off my tattoos is usually a sad occasion for me. Not a single one of them is finished. Why, you may ask. I've had some very strange run ins with tattoo artists. From being unprofessional in general, to being high and messing up the work, to propositioning me for sex in lieu of payment...

If it wasn't for my intense need to have my ink done I'd probably avoid tattoo shops all together.

Here is a little montage of my pieces...

4  Re: Menstrual Care Package Swap - 3 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by NixArmageddon on: March 17, 2008 04:53:33 PM

This is the total sum of the loot! I am so excited. I had to go to the post office as soon as it opened so they wouldn't send the package alllll the way back to canada. What you'll find are 6 handmade cloth pads, some handmade natural bamboo reusable tampons, a dark chocolate bar, two amazing carrying cases and a heatpack cover made out of this gorgeous leafy fabric that still has a springy feel to it. There was also a packet of little soap bits, which my partner said she'd explain to me.

I can't even express how excited I am about this package. Everything in it is so beautifully made and colorful. I am so lucky to have had such a talented partner.

You can find more pictures of the details here...

Since my package was received I'm going to post some pictures.

This is all the loot minus the "purchased" item, which was various kinds of beef jerky since my partner liked salty meats.

This is all of the loot again, but with the reversible side of the "Damnit" doll/pincushion showing.

This is an "instead" cup holder. An instead is a disposable vaginal cup, much like a diva/moon cup. This was repurposed from an old set of drapes I found at a rummage sale.

This is it opened, with an instead poking out. Smiley

This is a cloth pad/disposable pad/natural tampon/etc bag. It can even be carried as a small clutch purse during that week. Those in the know, will even see the red "period" on the outside.

This shows the inside of it. This was repurposed from an old sweater and I did the entire thing by hand.

This is what my grandmother would call a "goodie" bag. I used my hand carved stamp to put a nice fresh cupcake on the outside. Inside there were a few handmade cards by my friend Addie.

My favorite, the "Damnit" doll/pincushion. This is the "period week" side. Please note the little tampon on her hoodie.

This is the "Other 3 weeks out of the month" side.

I hope that 1boy1girl1kitty2 loved this stuff as much as I loved making it. Sadly, I still have not received my package yet and she sent well before I did. Sad

Ahhhh! Check out all of this amazing stuff.

A messenger bag with this amazing embroidery on it.

A close up.

The interior with zip pocket that says, "Consumerism is not the answer... don't buy it."

The rest of the bounty. There is a Gustav Klimt postcard, a pair of reconned leather earrings, a zip pouch with a tree on it!, and three Frida Khalo pins.

I am so in love with this package! Thank you so much Kate!!

7  Day of the Dead skulls, a la Kathy Cano-Murillo in Completed Projects by NixArmageddon on: December 30, 2007 04:18:38 PM
Oh man. Based on http://www.craftychica.com/blogs/diary/2007/10/funky-fantasy-skulls.phpKathy Cano-Murillo's, Day of the Dead skulls, I made this jewel. I have had this plastic light up Halloween decoration for ages. I love it so much more now. I had seen these last year and I've been thinking about it ever since. If I can find more of these skulls, you had better believe I'm making some for friends.

Ohman! I received mine today and HOLY CRAP! I can't believe how amazing this package is!

This is the medium item; a Camp Rolling Hills t-shirt. This is the camp in Sleepaway Camp 2, it's an 80s slasher flick.

This is the large item; a hand knitted Jason Vorhees shoulder bag!!!

This is the inside of the bag. How lush!

This is the small item; a splattered gory recipe box with zombie recipe cards!!!

The cards...

My bonus item; horror badges!!

Jen was such an amazing partner, I hope she loved her package as much as I loved mine. I have been dancing nerdy geek bliss dances since I arrived home after work.

Jen, thank you so much for making this nerd girl happy.

9  They call him Zed. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by NixArmageddon on: November 25, 2007 01:52:31 PM
His name is Zed. He is a prototype and he's not completely as I had wished. Tell me what you think.

Face close up of Zed.

A full frontal Zed shot.

A full view of Zed's back. You can see the mohawk.

The back end of Zed, you can see his tattoo and flesh wound.

A little detail shot of Zed's clothing.

This is Zed's clavicle bone, all poky and what not.

This is a true full front image of Zed.

I had planned out all the lumpiness and ill measurements of his limbs for a purpose, but none of them came out the way I wanted them to. I am evening him out for version 2 and hoping that I can still convey that zombie-esque quality.

10  Re: sleepy time(princess) mask now with tutorial!!! in Completed Projects by NixArmageddon on: November 25, 2007 01:48:21 PM
So, I finished the prototype for the Star Trek Sleep mask. I am coming up with some different ideas of designs for the masks themselves. I'm going to keep it under wraps for now, but I am hoping that these masks look as good in fabric as they do in my head.

Here are a few shots of them, even an ACTION shot! Woo!

Sorry for the poor lighting, but it's getting dark already. I am a super perfectionist and I am stressing over where the hidden stitch is at, being not so hidden. I am getting better at sewing, which is good for mass production of products.

I also didn't cover the elastic on this one. I sort of don't like the bunchy fabric cover. But, I couldn't find various colored elastic at JoAnns. I don't think I mind the bare elastic, it's less frilly this way.

Here I am modeling the mask. It's completely dark so it's doing it's job. Way to go Star Fleet issued sleep mask.
