I think it looks alright without filling in the deer...  You could maybe double up on the outline to give the body more "weight" though... It feels like it's just floating there while the other bits have more impact.  (Then again maybe that's been your plan all along.) Hope this helps!  Looks like it'll be a cute scarf...  Great for chasin' the winter blues away!

You could even up the ante on this a bit and make it more nourishing by adding a drop of Vitamin E oil to each pot of color... great idea by the way!!!

Not sure if anyone has suggested it yet but Taste of Home magazine is a great one for starters... It's bi-monthly and it features cut out recipe cards so if you try one and like it you should be able to snip it out and save it.  Plus the majority of the recipes are homey, basics like casseroles and roasts... I think your man would be pleased and you'll get some tasty treats too.  They also feature a lot of handy tips and tricks!  Good luck!!!

40  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Upholstered Headboard (in construction, image heavy) on: February 09, 2007 10:43:40 PM
Hey Kids... this is my first post and I'm purty excited about it!!!

I fell in love w/ the headboards on urban outfitters.com and decided to try my hand at it and create one for my own full size bed.

I found this already padded piece at a thrift store.  It's actually a footboard for a queen, but at 30 bucks I was willing to give it a go!

I found some nice linen at Jo Ann's plus some AMAZING buttons that by boyfriend picked out for the tufting.  They are distressed silver w/ lion crests w/ a banner that says "honor" on them!!!

Here are a few picks of the process so far...

The headboard as it came from the store.

Here it is covered in fabric.

A close up where I stapled the fabric to the armature.

A couple shots of how it looked after I tufted it.

Further plans involve adding either some sort of metal cross between the tufts.  I have yet to construct the actual rig that will attach it to my bed. It will hang off the edges a bit but I think it's going to look really great in the end.

I hope everyone likes it!!!

I'd like to apologize in advance for any poor quality pictures... hey this is my first post after all!!!
