1  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / In Leeds on Dec 1st - come and support your fellow crafters on: November 29, 2006 04:35:27 AM
Its that time again - prettycraftythings will be taking place on 1st December at Leeds Met Student Union between 12 and 4pm. We have over 30 vendors, a mix tape trade and Victoria Woodcock, the co-author of fantastic new alternative craft book 'Making Stuff' - and if that's not enough there will be a lucky dip with free stuff and christmas cookies for those who get there early enough!

Again we will be holding a charity raffle in aid of the NSPCC (charity registration 216401) - the prizes are amazing - two jam packed goody bags, one featuring loads of items from Etsy contributors and one featuring contributions from the newly formed Leeds Craft Mafia. These are prizes you do not want to miss! There will also be lots of NSPCC freebies including sticker, pens and balloons! Look for the stall with lots of green balloons - tickets will cost 1 for a strip of 5 and the draw will be made during the afternoon.

And finally, for your aural pleasure our playlist this month is dedicated to an alternative christmas!

So come along and say hello - it will be lots of fun!!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / grey cardigan = new bag!! on: August 11, 2006 10:12:50 AM
This bag was originally a grey cardigan that my mum was going to give away to a charity shop. I whacked it in the washing machine to felt it and then got started hacking it to pieces! The actual bag and the zig zag sewing around the edges were done on the machine but due to my own stupidity in the assembly process I hand stitched the edging around the top of the bag, the handles and the little closure on to the bag. I also hand stitched the beading around the edges of the flower. The closure doesn't properly close yet - I have got to get some grey velcro (is there such a thing!!) or magnetic closure thing. Sizewise it is about 8 x 8 1/2" and the strap is about 11" long

This has been a big labour of love as I am actually quite allergic to wool and have suffered as a consequence and won't really be able to use it!! But it looks so purty its worth it!!
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Bumble Bee Cushion on: August 11, 2006 04:30:27 AM
So I found I had this fabric and had no idea what to do with it, inspiration stuck and I decided it was to become a lovely snuggly cushion for my sofa. However my sewing machine did not get on with the material and I ended up hand sewing it - including the zip. Its mate is sat all pinned up waiting for me to be bothered to attempt the task all over again (it may be waiting some time!)

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Heart Sequins and Plectrum Earrings and a paper bead bracelet (now 5 images) on: August 11, 2006 04:24:11 AM
I know these type of earrings have been done many times but I have just got back into jewellery making and wanted to do some practising with jump rings, clasps etc

And this is a crystal heart and mini dice pair!

The bracelet was just to have a go with elasticity and a clasp but had the added bonus of making a small dent in the hundreds of paper beads I seem to have!

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Stripey Drawstring Bag on: August 05, 2006 01:58:12 PM
This drawstring bag was intended to be an ickle rucksack for my friends daughter for her third birthday. However I didn't like how the straps turned out so I improvised a bit and turned it into a drawstring bag. The little girl in question was very happy I am pleased to report! The beads on the end of the drawstrings are little red hearts

8  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / My take on SnB wrist cuffs on: June 18, 2006 12:07:50 PM
Hi,

These are the first things I have undertaken to make as I have found them a good way to practice various techniques and can wipe 'em up pretty quickly! The basic pattern is from SnB and I have created some different logos and expressions to put on them. The stripy ones were my first ever attempt at knitting on double ended needles.

I have mainly made these for my husband and he loves them even though they are knitted! He is in a band (Abrasive Wheels) and they stop the sweat getting from his arm to his guitar, and as he is going over to the US and Canada for a two week tour next week I thought they would remind him of me while he was away.

I also made a couple more for a friend and her daughter. I did three pink hearts on the one for my friend and a slightly different version of the punk one for her daughter.

All three cuffs

Close up on skull cuff (has been worn so slightly sweaty!)

Close up on punk cuff

So any of you guys in America and Canada who like old school punk should check out if he is playing near you and can let me know if he is actually wearing them!!
