First...do you remember the "share your mess...then lets clean it up!" thread here on craftster? Well, I scrapped my "before" and "after" pics. Only the before isnt actualy so beforeish....its realy more mid-way. Though...it was certainly no cleaner before I started.
While were talking about redecoration, look at the new use I found for a plastic toy sword! This is me, peeling wallpaper off my fiances parents home bathroom. I have hated that wallpaper for 10 years. It was white vynel with crimson, black and silver faux paint splatters. Yay 80s! only not. Sadly, it was only mid 90s. Anyways, the sword was the only way we could get back behind the toilet.
And here, at last, is my pack from the Sabbat LARP. This one took me forever to figure out. pay no mind to the skewed brad in the corner there.
And, the last one is Drew. Its going to have the quote "Bugger it all, another critical failure" on it, and mabey a green robot like the one on Ms Greives Valentines layout (well, hers is red, but same idea). opinons?
I've been away too long. I see there have been some cool stuff posted recently, so, time to share!
I'm sorry if I've shown any of these before...it gets hard to keep track! Oh, and several of these pages are dedicated to one of my freinds. It lists their lj, and full name. I got their permission to post these online...but please dont stalk them or anything.
CONvergance. I love that convention.
(another goldfish funeral, I'm afraid. layers galore went into this one)
the first xmas my family and my inlaws spent together. We made that ugly-ass cake togther.
Comments welcome as always! also, All these pages are digital, though sometimes the papers werent. Yay scanners.
Ok, so last winter/spring I was in a Sabbat LARP. I got to be an art-deco style gargoyle (I felt kind of like a lamp, but in a good way). Anyways, I'm trying to scrapbook my ever-so-spooky vampire pack, but the layout is just...well....ugly. I dont know what to use or where to put my pictures. The paper keeps scanning weirdly, and its just not comeing together. I'll post what I've got. the only thing that needs to stay the same is the actual pictures. Any and all ideas appreciated.
oh, and we started up a brand new digital scrapbooking community on lj if anybody is interested.
Somehow I've ended up with alot of zombie and pirate themed activities this year. Some of you might have seen my pirate anniversary at the MN ren fest page a while back.
Somewhat less glamorous, here is our celebration for Talk Like a Pirate Day. We have a picture here of 4 pirates. though our lusty crew consisted of 5 pirates in total- Lisa wasn't there yet. We had authentically stolen British tea, and sharp cheese on stale crackers. mmm. Mark you calendars, those of you who missed it! September 19th.
More recently, heres Halloween. Zombie-themed. I'm the one on the far left, dressed as a trick-or-treater who has been freshly zombified. Yes, the pumpkin on the left is an ang-o-lantern. The avatar state is scary! I cant take credit for that one though...it belongs to the second zombie from the right and the second zombie from the left. My and the final zombie pictured carved the butt-ugly pumpkin in the front. We specifically set out to find an ugly pumpkin, and make him all zombie-ish. bonus that he rotted some! I'm proud of having made the "paper" myself, from a picture taken inside the pumpkin as we carved it.
And finally, Heres a picture from the Zombie Preparedness Initiative, Edina Contingent, from out panel on long-term survival of the zombie Apocalypse. That was at CONvergance 2006 (a huge, awesome scifi/fantasy/horror/anime/comics/whatever convention in the twin cities). Note the spiffy fruit basket I have in the second picture. That was generously given to us, just before the panel, from the Vampire Hunters Guild who were also present. There were public relations photos taken, but somehow i didn't end up possesing any of those.
I think that these pages are done, but I am very much up for crit.
I havent been able to scrap in a while, and last night, as i was trying, it just wasn't comeing. I tried to work on this page, of my mom. I like the paper, and this is the ONLY possible picture (took me 2 months to get her to let me take it). And i think I like the font and the swirly overlay (the blue loopy thing). But its missing something, isnt it?
I'd realy welcome some ideas about how to jazz this page up, without loosing the bits i like.
in case it helps- my mom is sort of crafty, in a flower and mozaic kind of way. I think this layout shows her asthetic pretty well. Shes realy low key, and not the least bit sentimental. Shes got a realy dry sence of humor, which kind of disturbes some people. We're pretty close.
Youknow, trying to make one scrapbook page, trying to sum up someone you know realy well, is pretty hard. But i think it gets even harder when their artists to- i want to keep true to their asthetics.
a few more digi pages. Youknow, they just don't make much in the way of piraty papers and accesories. Seriosuly, and Pirates are so in right now! So I improvised a bit. That coin and pearl background there I made by messing with a picture I took of a fake chest of booty while on that Underwater Adventures date I went on that I posted a page for earlier. I'm especialy proud of this one becuase I managed to find those "birthstone" saphire charms, in the exact shape of the stones on our engagement rings. This one is of our 4 year aniversary, celebrated at the MN ren fest.
That was specificaly for our anniversary. this one is for the rest of the day. thats our buddy kevin waveing the cross at us. heh. bellydancers. I love fest. I just wish I'd gotten a better picture of the fire eaters. Realism? bah! We dont need any of that here!
And, randomly, heres the yearbook page for my buudy pat. Less shiney, but so him! Hes dressed that was becuase I took the picture during a rousing game of Calvinball (you remember Calvinball...from Calvin and Hobbs?). I'm only mostly sure this one is done. what do you think?
And finaly, another event they dont make papers and accesories for. A good freind of mine, Nicole Lorenz, has been working on a novel since she was....lord...8th grade? something like that. shes almost a college grad now. Naturaly the first several versions were crappy, but she just recently finished a very nearly publishable edit of it. So, she threw a party after she finished it, on the main charicters birthday. And, one of her guests brought a puppy! Thats her with a birthday cake for the chara on the top right, and the whole gang on the bottum right. The pics on the left are paintings (2 oils and a digital) shes done, from the story. Impressive, yes? "Sixth" is the name of the book.
the end. Comments are always appreciated!
And check out the new photo update function if you havent yet! Its so easiy I hardly knew i was useing it! Plus, anything to encorage more action around here.
Ok, so I feel like this company should exist- but i have been unable to find it. If it dosnt exist, i may have to make it, but first, ill ask you if youve seen it.
What im looking for is a geek/freak/goth/nerd freindly scrapbook supply company. I am sick. to death. of flowers and paisly! and stripes, their not much better! Where is the cosplay set, the ninja paper, the pirate paper for christsakes! I have pages and pages of papers that should exist, but dont seem to. Where can i find papers appropriate to my garu larp charicter? (i did find one nice full moon through trees, but c'mooon).
This may be my favorite digital page yet. There are several layers on the background, and I relay feel it expresses her well- shes a painter, who likes to work in these colors.
This one feels like an old west "WANTED" poster. I like using pics that aren't of people smiling at the camera. Especially when you have page after page of scrapbook. It really helps to add variety.
And this one is of my fishies. SunTzu and Auren. This one was an interesting experiment cause i really made no attempt to make it look like it was made of natural materials. Defiantly not something id do on every page, but it was fun to try. Can you believe I found that paper?
And now pages dedicated to events, rather than people (and fish)
my 23rd birthday. i had alot of fun with the papers. ive been waiting to use that black and white diamond.
a recent date to underwater adventures. Im not sure how i feel about this one...its hard to be snazzy and still show many pics at once, yeah?
And...ok, i feel i need to preface this one. I am not makeing fun of him. This is a very, very dear freind of mine, when he was in the hospital with leukemia. hes already home, and doing very very well. In fact, he never felt any actual discomfort from the cancer. He had the insane luck that for him, the worst parts of the experience were A: his ass hurting from all the biopsys, B: being bored out of his mind, and C: for some reason chemo made everything taste funny. Mostly like sweets, and he dosnt like sweets. These pics are for when me and his fiance went out to get him toys, and then irratated each other with them for several hours at the hospital for his entertainment.
The quote on top came from his favorite card out of the whole ordeal, made by a freind of ours. On the outside it read "We're sorry your cancer is boreing" and on the inside it read "So, to liven things up, this card has been infected with the bird flu!"
I was realy trying to capture the feel of this event. It was fun, but there was an almost forced nature to it. He was doing ok, so we were all trying very hard not to worry. The odd photo treatment was to try to catch that strange edge on everything. He goes back for a new immune system in the fall.
comments welcome, especially from you other digital scrappers. I know your out there!
So, somehow or other I've ended up in a Sabbat Vampire LARP. Lisa and I are playing Gargoyles. But, being the bitsy little things we are, we decided to go to an art nuvou look. Then..we had to make costumes. So, here are 2 sets of wings, made out of foam, coated in this crazy substance called "Sculpt or Coat", which makes it stiff, but malleable. The white one is just a layer of the foam, with cutouts glued on, then all of it was painted. The other one is foam layers, painted, with gold leaf paint. the white one is held on because its attached to my bra. Because of her costume, Lisa couldn't wear hers on a bra, so hers is held on with the harness you see.
