1  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! on: May 14, 2007 04:55:43 PM
Well my dress isn't 100% home made, but I did purchase it at a vintage store in palm springs.  I fixed the damaged neckline, changed the sleeves, added the ribbon, and preformed a few 'fix up's'.  It had lovely draping in the back (sorry no pics) and it turned out to be my dream dress!

Thank you guys so much!  I got fabric today, and I can't wait to get started on my very own infinite dress!  Thanks again, I'll have lots of pictures when I finish!

Wow, these all look amazing! I've gone through 80 pages fairly thoroughly, and I still have one question.  Feel free to slap me if I missed this somewhere along the line, but being an amateur seemstress, I have a question about the fabric.  The extent of my sewing has included few patterns and not a lot of fabric buying (reconstruction = love) so.... the circle skirt.  As far as my limited experience of wallmart and Joann's fabric leads me to believe that it wouldn't be wide enough to cut out a decent sized circle.  Is there somewhere else I should look before I go out and make one of my first fabric purchases, or is it a technical fix that I should know about?  Thanks for putting up with my beginner-ness!
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Stitch and Bitch...but more pg on: January 24, 2007 06:30:56 PM
I'm so excited... my friends and I started our own 'crafting club' at school.  We have a million ideas for things we want to do (meetings, fundraiser's, etc etc), but were hung up one thing....
a name
We started out calling it our unofficial stitch and bitch.  As you may guess that's not going to fly with the school.  On our club application we called it Sewing Circle.  However, this comes off as a little granny (minus the chic).  We've also thought about crochet club (but we aren't just crocheting, so clearly this won't work).  So far all we've got is:
stitch and kovitch (sp? it means bitch in Yiddish)
So I'm sending out a plea for a cool name to my fellow craftsters:
A cool name, that preferably encompass all crafty things (but that's not mandatory), will fly with the admin, and shows that it's a club geared towards running with scissors rather than ye old crafts of yester year.

7  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Re: Project Runway 3 (see first post) on: September 11, 2006 05:49:23 PM
Yay!  Thank you guys! I can't wait to see what they come up with, this is the best part, seeing what they can do with more time and money!  This brings up another question that I have, if this season sort of climaxes at this fashion week and the last one ended in spring, do you think this means we'll have a new season comming up ending in spring, and the show will air twice a year? (did that make any sense?)

Are the top 3 (well 4 including the decoy) designers showing there collections at this fashion week?  That means we should have pictures soon!
9  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Re: My Version of Chanel Pearls on: September 03, 2006 10:33:27 AM
Thank you so much for all the compliments! It feels so good to get so much great feedback!  I believe the pearls are plastic lava means love, although the beads in between are glass.
