1  COOKING / Dessert / turtle cake! on: April 12, 2008 08:53:32 PM
i made a turtle cake for my friend's birthday, she has a turtle. i'd never tried fondant before and it was sort of on a whim this morning that i decided to make it. im so relieved it turned out! the marshmallow fondant was actually really cool stuff and fun to make. she has a red eared slider, so i added little red stripes like her turtle has. and my friend and i added the hat when we had leftover brown. you may see a little crack on the side, but thats bc i didnt have enough fondant to do the shell color in one piece and i had to do half and half. so basically i love it and im glad i decided to make it Shocked

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / ASB school election campaign ideas! on: April 13, 2005 08:04:09 PM
Hey! I am running for a spot on our schools executive council (Publicity and Communications) and i need some really cool ideas for campaigning bc the competition will be tough. Like this girl one year printed stickers that were half a page with really quirky rhyming things with her name. And then she took funny pictures as the background. They were like a hot commodity! But i can't do the same thing so i was looking for ideas. And also a way to make my speech funny. I go to all girls school if that happens. And we cant bribe people with food or money. Any ideas?
my ideas for campaigning:
-stickers (everyone makes these)
-posters mimicking popular ad campaigns like ipod, mastercard...
-make myself a bright purse that says to vote for me
-making earrings for my buddies to wear
-a website

ideas for speech:
write a poem??
-help please!!
- i get really nervous for public speaking and my voice gets all shaky, but i really want this job. so i figure if i have a good speech this would help me...

THANKS SO MUCH for anyone who helps me. Ill welcome any ideas!!!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Dentist Survival Kit on: February 18, 2005 02:48:28 PM
well my sister hasnt been to the dentist in sooo many years and lets just say her brushing regimine isnt quite what it could be. so she is finally going to the dentist after much of my prodding and pushing and she is terrified. like, this girl had to sit on my lap to get a shot, and she older than me. sooo i want to comfort her because i recently went through the root canal business and i know it can be scary. so i wanted to make her a survival kit... i need some more ideas though... please help! you guys always have such great ideas... and i'm kind of looking for stuff that isn't real heavy, since ill be mailing this. [sorry for my lack of capitalization and stuff, but i am soo lazy when it comes to typing!]

my ideas so far:
the obvious stuff like floss, cool toothpaste, travel brush, etc.
sugarfree food or even like whitening gum
jamba juice certificate [hard to eat when half your face is numb]
stress ball? [can you make these? i could make one like a tooth!]
a few little cards with encouraging sayings that she can pull out when shes nervous... any ideas for sayings? the cornier, the better Wink

thanks so much to anyone who helps!!

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Making Car Seat Covers on: November 22, 2004 09:08:04 PM
Huh The only chance I have at a car is one older than me. The problem I have with it is that the backseat is ripped up. I want to cover it because when you sit down the loose plastic-y type stuff sticks into you and the foam pops out. I did a search and found a kind that just goes over the top, but I need help with covering the whole seat. The back seat too! If anyone has any ideas of how to approach this, let me know! I guess its sort of like reupholstering a sofa, but in the car?or would it be more like slipcovers? Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!!!

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Tank Top --> easy purse on: June 18, 2004 11:41:32 PM
i had an idea that would work for any sort of tank top. you would just fold it so the two side seams are on top of eachother in the middle. then stitch across the bottom. add some depth and boom you have a new bag! hmm, not sure if it would look funny though. i was envisioning one of those "wifebeater" style ones, so the straps of the purse would be the straps of the shirt.... jsut an idea. i might try it later.

10  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Starting up worries on: May 31, 2004 09:22:32 PM
I've been inspired to start selling some of my bags and other accessories this summer. I've got a possible name and an idea of what i want to sell. My question is how should i go about starting? Just start a website or something? Is there a way to make sure i don't accidentally take a name from someone else? I wouldn't think there are any copyright problems with little companies, but then again i have no idea. And i certainly wouldn't want to take anyone's ideas. Any starting advice from fellow entrepreneurs? I would appreciate advice on anything relating!! Thanks! Grin
