At first I thought it was just a cruel rumor.  But after some google researching I've found it to be true.
Red Devil is no longer making their lye.
Two reasons seem to be given:  it wasn't selling well and it is used in the making of meth

But now what?  I was getting ready to try my hand at my first batch of CP soap soon.  I have been reading and studying, but when I went to my local stores to find lye, guess what...it's gone!

So now what?  I'm just starting this hobby, I don't want/can't afford to buy a large quantity of lye from the chemical stores.  And buying online is looking like a nightmare with expensive hazardous material shipping and hazmat waivers that need to be faxed before purchase.

agggg!  I'm discouraged and I haven't even started yet?  And advice soapmakers?

Have you ever been in the store and found some fabulous/crazy/outrageous/beautiful fabric and you needed to craft something out of it just so you could justify buying it?  I know I have, and I can't even sew very well.

How about a fabulous fabric contenst where you make a fabric inspired craft.

There could be a limit on how much fabric you could use...1 yrd, 2 yrds, 1/2 yrd.  And you wouldn't have to make just clothing items.

What do you guys think?

Hi Everyone!
In a few weeks I am going to start putting together a costume trunk for my darling five year old baby sister. I might make one for my daughter too.
I could use some creative ideas.  I want to make most of the items myself, to give it a unique and personal touch.
I already have thought of stringing some necklaces and bracelets from pony beads.
I also think I will buy some of those cheap plastic play shoes from a dollar store and jazz them up with some rhinestones, paint and such.
I'm also keeping a look out in the thrift stores for interesting clothes and hats.
Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have about $30-40 dollars to work with.
