1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Pixel Wall Art on: November 15, 2009 07:23:14 PM
Can you guess which celebrity I painted? Answer at the end of the post.

I pixellated the image on GIMP, then graphed it on the canvas. Here are the in-progress photos:

In context of the whole room (sorry a little blurry):

It's Audrey Hepburn!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Minnie=Me on: January 10, 2007 09:30:44 PM
I started this skirt last summer, but the sewing machine broke mid-project, and I just added the buttonholes tonight.

I'd planned to make a black-and-white polka-dotted skirt, but I couldn't find the fabric. I actually like this better, though, because I match Minnie Mouse!

Sorry the pictures are so pixelled. My parents didn't install Paint Shop Pro on their new computer, so I had to manually drag the pictures to a smaller size on MS Paint.

I couldn't resist the irony:

I didn't sew part of the mouth so I could use it as a cell phone caddy:

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Anyone familiar with Brother sewing machines? on: November 19, 2006 07:48:00 PM
My mom's 20-year-old Singer just died, and my dad wants to get her a new machine for Christmas. She says Brothers are the best kind to get now, and I've found the XL 2600 and the XL3500T for under $100 online. She's a simple sewer, and she said the only features she needs are an automatic buttonholer, straight and zig-zag stitches, and a foot so she can make curtains (which I think we'd have to buy separately anyway). Are either of these machines suitable to her needs, and would you recommend them?
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / A Cowgirl's Take on the Classic Jeans-to-Skirt on: May 25, 2006 09:37:00 PM
I loved my favorite pair of jeans (no before pic, sorry), but apparently I loved them too much, wore them too much, and they consequentially developed a rather unbecoming hole in the upper thigh that made them no longer presentable. Desperate to salvage some part of them, I cut them straight across at the crotch, knowing full well I didn't have the thighs to wear a mini-skirt. So I used this tutorial (http://ohmystars.net/craft/indexclothing.htm, and click "asymmetric draped skirt" in the left column), only instead of measuring at my waist/hips, I measured at the cut edge of the jeans. Some quality time with the sewing machine later . . .

And since everyone else home is asleep, and I haven't managed to figure out the timer on the camera, I couldn't get an action view. It doesn't twirl that well anyway. But when I pair it with that brown shirt and belt, I manage to commit the ultimate fashion faux pas by wearing black, blue, white, and brown all in one outfit. *so proud*
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / FIRST POST: Rory Gilmore-inspired shirt on: May 18, 2006 03:02:34 PM
Rory Gilmore wore this shirt in the episode "A Tisket a Tasket" in Season 2 of Gilmore Girls:
So I bought a pink long-sleeved T-shirt from Goodwill for $1.25 and decided to make my own. I think Rory's was actually a sweater, but I'm not a sweater person. Anyway, then I pinned the design in fuzzy yarn from Wal-Mart and whipstitched it, and here is the end result:
It's actually a slightly darker pink in real life. Oh, and I have a question . . . do you think the shirt will need to be hand-washed?
