2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Selvage chair re-do! on: March 14, 2010 05:52:00 AM
Before:

After:

This chair was from my in laws house, and has spent the last 10 years in my basemant.
I started by cutting pieces of muslin as a base, then cut a base of batting. I then pinned selvage strips to create a fabric. Next, I sewed the selvage strips down. I then trimmed everything, and fit the various pieces together. Finally, I stapled it on to the base of the chair

Come take a look on my blog to see how I did it with lots of photos!

My niece Laura recently completed her coursework for a Masters degree in Education.

She hopes to find a job as an English teacher at the High School level.

When I first saw this fabric, I knew I had to make her something from it.

It is oversized, to accomodate her laptop!I used the coordinating black fabric for the bottom, as well as for an insert to make the bottom more sturdy

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Ironing board cover and Insul-Bright on: October 10, 2009 03:08:55 PM
Hi all,
Hoping I can ask a few questions and get some guidance.

About 1-2 years ago, I made a new cover for my ironing board. Easy job, and much nicer looking than the ones you can buy at the store. I reuse the pad thaqt came with my old cover.

Now, I feel like the pad underneath has worn out.

Today at Joann's. I bought Insul-Bright, http://www.warmcompany.com/ibpage.html
which seems like it will do the trick. I have a few questions:

I have read about people putting a layer of foil under the cover to reduce ironing time. Can I use this with the insul-Bright?

Can I use more than one layer of insul-bright, or am I better off using a thin batting?

TIA for any replies Smiley
