1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / um, help!! supplies questions on: June 06, 2007 07:31:36 PM
i would love to learn how to silk screen as stenciling isn't working as well as i would like. i have read numerous tutorials, and the whole thing finally 'clicked' after watching a video.
but i am still confused about what supplies i need. for the moment, i want to make simple designs for personal use on my own clothing/fabric. i was sent a frame in a swap, but i honestly have no idea how to sue it. i also recieved the net, but it is too small for the frame. for a complete beginner, is it best to purchase a kit of some sort? the frame i have is about 12x16, and it is solid two inch or so wood. there is a small slit in the center that goes all the way around the frame. i'm not quite sure what it is for, any ideas on how to work? aside from new net, what should I plan on buying? i have emulsion already.

gah, i apologize for the wording of this. i am horribly tired and cant think very straight Tongue i am pretty much just wondering what are the simple basics. i can figure it out from there. thanks for any help!
2  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: recipes to use up pinapple juice? on: May 21, 2007 07:17:54 PM
 i am making this now:
http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=196313

i haven't actually finished yet, but the bit i tried is yummy. i added strawberries as well. i'm trying to think of recipes, and i am having a hard time thinking of any. possibly make a cranberry orange juice muffin recipe and use pineapple and strawberries instead. or make carrot cake, the pineapple juice tastes so good.
3  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Traveling to Africa on: May 10, 2007 06:35:39 PM
I am a vegan as well, and I understand what you are going through! Just a thought though, I certainly would not eat something with a hunk of meat in it, but I do know that many, many vegans do eat dairy or trace meat when traveling. I certainly don't think you should give up your veganism, but it is something to consider. Other countries tend to be far less prosperous, so the food selection is pretty limited for the locals. I would be careful of what is in your food, but in all honesty you will probably end up with some animal products in your food as they may not understand your request.

With that said, I would take a lot of bars, granola, nuts, etc. and buy some fruits and veggies while at a market. I know nothing of Kenya as a country, but I think they would have large produce markets of some sort. Saying you are allergic is probably your best bet-they may understand that better than veganism.

There are quite a few vegan LJ communites that may be able to offer more help. just google lj and veganpeople and veganism. A few should come up Smiley

What about sewing a small purse and then stitching them onto it? I still have a crapload of pound puppies-my sister and I bought them all the time Smiley
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Whale Plushie Pattern? on: April 24, 2007 05:47:03 PM
I bought the cutest fabric with little whales all over it, so I can make little gifts for a few friends.
I really haven't made very many-if any-dolls or plushies, so a place to find patterns is beyond me. Can any of you either recommend a webpage, or a specific pattern for a whaled shaped toy? I could do something simple in 2D, but I think something a little more intricate would be best.

 Thanks for any hep Smiley

10  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: what do you wish people told you before you became a vegetarian/vegan on: April 15, 2007 09:26:27 PM
ok I  am an  ignorant omni.   but have a  question.... what is teh difference  between vegitarian and vegan. I am  jsut  curious  becuase  up till reading this  first  page I had  no  clue there  was a difference.

A vegatarian is one who consumes dairy and eggs, and abstains from animal 'flesh'. A vegan is one who consumer absolutely zero animal products-eggs, milk, honey, etc.
