1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / my pillow is the sex... i mean sax! on: May 21, 2007 03:07:31 PM
the other day, my school band was playing a concert for an elementary school when i found myself overcome with the sleepies. i momentarily fell asleep on my tenor sax (apollo, a 39 year old conn), and awoke with the idea to make this, my (handpainted) sax pillow!

i love it. now i can sleep with my saxaphone without smelling like old brass!

p.s. it's life-size!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / my handpainted giraffe sweater on: March 25, 2007 08:19:58 AM
i went to the toronto zoo for the first time in october and went giraffe crazy (pretty much the neatest animal next to the capybara, yes?). i painted this sweater based on a picture i took of a baby giraffe with jacquard paints and acrylics....

the front, on me.

the side (it wraps around the back)

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / cabled hat pattern help... please? on: January 03, 2007 01:16:07 PM
So I love this hat of Keira Knightley's:

but i can't find a pattern like it. Should I just knit a cabled beanie (with an altered gauge) and add a jersey lining with a brim? Anybody have any ideas or patterns they can suggest?

Thank you!

ps. I'm pretty good at knitting but have never tried cables, are they hard?
4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / John Wayne'd t-shirt on: August 26, 2006 01:16:51 PM
My brother works at a film store so, as you can imagine, him and his work-friends are film geeks. Anyways, my brother asked me to make him a shirt with John Wayne on it and his friend wanted one with Tom Cruise smiling. Naturally, I obliged.

I actually made two of the John Waynes for my brother,  one blue (which he calls Duke) and one pink (which he calls Marion, John Wayne's birth name, hehe!).
Any thoughts, please?
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Saxaphone upholstering help please! on: June 17, 2006 04:45:43 PM
No, not the actual saxaphone itself but it's case. My darling sax's case is decades (I'm not even kidding!) old and I have yet to have the ambition to reline the case. I'm finally going to have the time this summer but I have no idea how to do it. It has a big dent to fit the saxaphone and a compartment for all my lovely sax paraphenelia, so I'm not sure how I could get the fabric to drape in there nicely. Plus I'd need some kind of fake fur to cushion the metal and I've never worked with any before.

Does anybody have any ideas? Or furry fabric tips?
Thanks, loves.
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / bernard the monster, and walter the stupid sock creature on: May 30, 2006 04:37:41 PM
For my friend Nicole's birthday a week ago I made this red monster fellow out of red jersey with 3 brown buttons. All hand-sewn.

I think she should name him Bernard.

And my army sock man Walter, made with tutorials from Stupid Sock creatures (who else adores that book?)

It's my first time posting my own stuff, so please comment, I'm insecure!
