11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Periodic table stitch markers and other fun geekery on: June 28, 2011 02:53:35 PM
i know this is an old post, but i just don't visit here often.  i also am not a sciency person, but i, too, love the periodic table.  i think it is because my 7th grade science teacher, a thousand years ago, made it so fun to learn.  and one of the ways he did it was by having us learn our name if possible, and then other words to learn the elements.

this is really great!

Okay, now that you've been gardening with your brilliantly brilliant necklace...
how long did it keep frozen?
did you get wet when the cubes thawed?
did you care?? LOL!

brilliant idea!

well, if you look at my avatar, you see that it's a bike tube bracelet.  don't ever use polyurethane or hairspray on rubber...it breaks it down.  i use, when i need to, armorall, or another tire cleaner/protectant.

but if you have cleaned the tubes well, they shine nicely.

and you're right, they've been done before.  try to find designs that haven't been done.

I didn't know that! Thanks for the tip, I've never done anything with rubber before. The armorall is a great idea, I will have to keep that in mind.

Rie never claimed the design to be unique, theres no need to be rude. Encourage creativity, don't demand it.

I wasn't rude, I was agreeing with her that there is nothing unique in the designs.  And don't tell me what to do; talk about rude.

16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need help recreating this bracelet! on: January 30, 2011 02:55:56 PM

(I also agree that people get their ideas from all around them all the time, even artists.  There's also a huge difference between wanting to make something similar for yourself or as a gift, and intending to copy exactly then sell those copies.)

i have no problem with people wanting to jump off from an inspiration point, but i do have a problem with people ASKING how to copy my work or anyone else's.  the op didn't ask how to make something like, she asked how to recreate the bracelet.

that's a rather broad question.  do you want to beadweave, chainmail, string, wire wrap, solder, what material, etc, etc.

Thanks everyone Cheesy I had a lot of fun making the bracelet.

i'm sure i'll get in trouble for saying this, but,  i think it really stinks that you would ask for help to recreate someone else's creative design.   it's one thing if you can figure it out yourself, or make a variation of it on your own, but to ask for help in copying someone's design is just wrong.

many of us who make our living from designing and making jewelry and other pieces of art rely on our creativity to get us through. if you're not creative enough to come up with the design or the mechanics, then sometimes you have to pay for it.

i'm not smart enough to fix my car, so i have to pay for someone to do it.  likewise, i'm not creative enough to design and sew my own clothes, so i have to pay someone to do so.  but i would never post on a board a picture of an item i found in a store, and ask someone to help me to copy the Badgley Mischka design..oh and by the way,  I don't sew and I don't want to have to spend a lot of money on tools or anything.

maybe i should just save up for what i want.

and $52 is a really reasonable price for the bracelet.
20  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: What bottle-cap item would get more wear and tear on it? on: December 26, 2010 10:21:16 AM
We sell thousands of bottle cap items each year and now use only ice resin for them, no matter how they are being sold.

for quite some time we filled some with dg3 and some with ice resin, depending on use ( necklaces and earrings got dg3) but ice resin is really the easiest and best in our opinion.
