yummy supper! I used the red bell pepper & garlic blend from jexxi on some homemade french fries in the oven:

And the very berry cheesecake blend in a no-bake cheesecake with graham cracker crust topped with fresh raspberries for dessert:

OK, so with some delay, here are the pictures of the awesome package from jexxican!
My little helper "helping" me open the box:

My little helper then became my little photographer...A couple shots of me opening the package (please excuse the drowned-rat look, we got caught in the rain)

^^^Those are some amazing natural food products she sent - the left is "Very Berry Cheesecake Blend" & the right is "Red Bell Pepper & Garlic Blend" YUM!

^^^See that? A SPINNING KIT!!! step-by-step instructions, some raw fiber & a spindle Smiley She also sent some hand-spun that she made, which I feel I will not be able to measure up to. I also have no clue what project would be worthy of this yarn - it's just so pretty Smiley
Shaun fell in love with this jersey, and had to take a close up. He wants me to make him a car out of it lol

All the fabrics, fibres & food together (my favorite f-words!)

And a happy little helper who thinks this is all for him:

15  Couch Caddy in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by jezebel_1982 on: October 02, 2011 01:09:28 PM
A couple years ago, my step father was diagnosed with diabetes. He also has large & small vessel vascular disease.
Sadly, over the past couple of years, he has had to undergo several amputations & other surgeries. Early this year, they took (what remained of) both of his legs above the knee, leaving him with about 6" stumps.
He has had to remain on the main floor in a hospital bed for quite some time, in the living room. He has his bed right beside the couch, so often places things on the end of the couch so they are within arm's reach. He also has a small table for drinks & the like. But he sets things down, and then they slide out of his reach, which is very frustrating for him as the only way he can reach them then is to get his wheelchair, pull it to his bed, get out, roll around & pick things up, then get back into bed & put his chair away. It's quite an ordeal.
I was asked to come up with an organizer for the arm of the couch that can hold remotes, a cordless phone, a couple pieces of mail, his meds & a couple other miscellaneous needs.
My mom's request was that it stick to the couch or be weighted.

I went to Len's Mills & scavenged within the remnants bins, pulled out a yard of gray polar fleece (which sticks nicely to the fabric of my mom's couch) & some woven houndstooth.
Here is the finished result:

And a close-up of the fabric I used:

Details of swap:
This is a SECRET Santa swap!
Your partner will not know who you are until they open your package! In turn, you will not know who will be sending to you.
You will receive your partner's info, and you will stalk them!  You must NOT contact your partner and let them know who you are! (go through your group leader if you have a question that must be answered!).

This is a small swap to ease time and money constraints around the holidays. You will craft 1 small and 1 medium item based off of your partners questionnaire, wist, and what else you find while stalking them. You will also purchase 1 item worth $3 - $5 USD this can be an ornament, candy, a candle, or anything else your partner might like (you will be sending three items in total). Be forewarned that you may not get the things you asked for in your questionnaire wish list depending on your Secret Santas skill set, but we will try to match everyone up as best as we can!

(By Time
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less)

Everyone MUST have a wist or pinterest with at least 25 items...and please try to make sure that the majority of these items are craft-able (not all furniture, electronics, books, etc!!)

Please make sure to fill out the questionnaire fully, and include all the information for your secret partner that you can. I am giving a long sign-up period so that you can take your time in filling out the questionnaire. Please take several days to think of a full comprehensive list for your partner because your partner will not be able to ask you questions, so make sure you give lots of info.

NOW THE TWIST!
The kicker to this swap is that you must WAIT to open your package! Put it under your tree or have your SO or roommate hide it from you ^_~ Well have a party of opening and posting our gifts on the 18th of December.

If you are in the United States, you must get a DC# for your package and if youre outside of the United States you must be able to send an electric copy of your postage receipt. The other requirement is that you need to write Secret Santa Swap Party somewhere on the package! This way no one gets accidentally confused and open up their present early! You will PM all of your sending and receiving info to the person in charge of your group and NOT to the person you're crafting for!

Communication requirement: I expect everyone to post at least once a week on the thread or send a message to your group leader. If you havent posted in a week, we will PM you. If you dont respond to the PM within a week of that, you will be considered a flaker. If youre going on vacation, or you know that you wont have internet access for a while, let us know! I want this swap to go as smoothly and as fun as it can. I also understand that there are some more quiet people who only like to read. For your post just give an update. Still researching my partner at this time is an acceptable post (or whatever your status might be at the time). Also, if you skip 3 or more weeks (non-consecutively) in posting, it will be marked as bad communication in your feedback. Please only sign-up if you know that you can follow through to the end!

I've made another Smiley
This was made for an auction held to benefit a friend who lost her daughter to SIDS. All proceeds went to help cover the legal & medical expenses of the family.
Coincidentally, another friend was the winning bidder. The two do not know each other, just happened that way.

And DS for size...he's 3 1/2, 39" tall. He also picked the colours for it, and was pretty much on top of me messing up my yarns the whole time.

18  Secret Santa? in New Swap Theme Ideas by jezebel_1982 on: September 30, 2011 06:57:29 AM
I believe these have been done before, but anyone up for a secret santa swap?

Maybe a 3-5point swap? This idea just came to me not 10 minutes ago, and I had to look into it & post about it.

Let me know if there's any interest, and I will start one up Smiley
Or if you have any suggestions as to what you would like it to include.

19  Pulled Pork Tacos in Recipes and Cooking Tips by jezebel_1982 on: September 25, 2011 03:47:48 PM
A fairly low-impact dinner to make, that went over BIG here, so I thought I would share it here.

DH came home & told me about something he saw - pulled pork tacos on wonton shells, which sounded interesting & worth a shot, so I went out & bought what was needed.

I cheated with this, and used a lot of store-bought stuff.

The pulled pork:
Mid-size pork tenderloin
1 packet Clubhouse slow cooker pulled pork seasoning (which requires cider vinegar, ketchup & brown sugar)
Cook pork tenderloin in seasoning as per packet directions. Shred.

Taco shells:
wonton wrappers
small amount of vegetable oil
I heard somewhere that you can bake wontons instead of deep frying them. This source indicated that the shells would be malleable when removed from the oven. WRONG. My first batch became wonton chips because of this.
Drape your wonton wrappers over the edge of a baking dish & brush lightly with vegetable oil. Bake at 300* until bubbly, then turn up to broil to brown the shells.

Coleslaw:
shredded cabbage (red & green for colour)
shredded carrot
dressing (mayo, whole seed mustard, seasoning [paprika & celery salt], pickle juice [or vinegar & sugar])
mix dressing, then pour over slaw & mix.

Put shredded pork in taco shell & top with coleslaw. YUM!

(Mine were served in individual bowls with wonton chips on the side & some sliced havarti baked inside wonton shells)
