1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: REAAAAALLLLLYYYY loopy stitching. Help me! on: October 05, 2008 04:48:04 PM
My machine (also an older Singer) does that when the bobbin isn't threaded correctly, so you might want to check that.  Did it come with the manual?  Or can you track one down online?
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Zigzag coming out straight? on: October 05, 2008 04:45:24 PM
I have a very old very temperamental sewing machine  Smiley

Today it pulled a new trick on me!  I'm trying to sew a zigzag stitch, and it's coming out as a straight line with only one or two "zigs" in it (on a 6" or so seam).  The needle is going back and forth fine, but for some reason the thread isn't catching on the left side.

Any ideas?

Since we have a pottery forum now I decided to move this Smiley
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Handspun Ski Headband on: July 07, 2008 10:39:12 PM

I made this headband out of my handspun yarn.  It's 3" wide and 20" around (stretches to fit my 24" head).  It's knit as a rectangle in stockinette stitch with a slipped edging, and the ends are grafted together.

Here is the yarn before being knit up, it's a 2 ply bulky weight spun from a black and white striped roving.

It took me about three hours to spin the yarn, an hour to ply it, and two hours to knit the headband.

Hope you like it!  I'd be happy to answer any questions Smiley
5  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: making semi-permament dye last longer on: April 28, 2008 06:59:15 AM
As you can see from my Icon my hair is blue,I have a hell of a time keeping it from fading. But I have started using the Beyond Zone color brand and it seems to last allot longer then the Manic Panic and doesn't turn that nasty green that Punky Color turns. My mom tried the Red and the red in that brand also seems to work nicely.

What shade do you use?  The dark blue one (I think it's called Huckleberry) always comes out light and turquoise on me.
6  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Questions About Hairstyles! on: April 26, 2008 02:29:48 AM
Question!

I have to get a "real" haircut instead of doing it myself as I usually do.  I'm terrified, since I have a history of going and ending up with something completely different than what I wanted.  So I'm trying to find pictures of what I like.

Problem is, most of the short haircuts I can find online are either "mom" haircuts, or too emo-ish for me.  I don't want those crazy long sideswept bangs, or and sort of short in back/long in front cut (kids these days!!)

Right now I have a really wide mohawk.  The sides and back are about 1" long, and the top is about 4".  My "sideburns" reach down to my earlobes.

Any tips on finding pictures that are edgy and fun but don't make me look like a high school kid?  I tried hairfiles, but most of them are the "emo" looks I was talking about.
7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: hair bleaching... on: April 26, 2008 01:50:59 AM
A hair bleaching kit is not expensive.  I've bought them for about $5, and there are probably some that cost less.

This will give you much better results (and be much better for your hair) than using some household product.

I've bought from henname.net, she sells Jamila which is my favorite.

Here's how to make LED "throwies" using a LED, batteries, and tape.  You could probably use this in a necklace.

Anyone know how to get manic panic out with in hours?

Hair color remover!  If you bleached before dyeing, it obviously won't get you back to your natural color, but you can at least get rid of the crazy colors.
