We've teamed up with the Architecture Centre here in Bristol, in honour of National Architecture week, to put together a show that features knitting and crochet representing elements of architecture. We're opening the show on Saturday at 7pm with an all-night knitting session- if anyone wants to come along and join in then please do! It should be really great fun, a bunch of us sitting up all night knitting, eating cake and talking trash...

Hopefully this is the right place to mention this show- if not, feel free to move my post...

2  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Knit a city! on: April 19, 2005 02:39:15 PM
We need lots of submissions so get thinking and knitting - and pass it on if you're a member of a knitting or crocheting group.

Knitting exhibition in Bristol

What: An exhibition of knitting and crochet inspired by architecture. This exhibition is part of architecture week (www.architectureweek.org.uk), a prestigious national event.

Details: Work can be 2D or 3D, a sculpture, a wearable garment or a wall hanging (or any other category you can come up with). It could be an entire building or a tiny detail, a knitted architects plan or a crumbling ruin or any other knitted or crocheted item directly inspired by architecture. Be as imaginative as you like, the only constraint is that your object must be knitted or crocheted (although it doesnt need to be made from yarn). Objects can be machine knitted or handmade.

When: 10th - 26th June 2005

Where: http://www.thingsfromhere.co.ukThe Here Gallery  is an innovative artist-run space that shows local, national and international artists.

Costs: there are no exhibition charges or fees for this show but the Here gallery does take a 40% commission on any work sold. If your work is for sale, please include the price (and remember to allow for the commission).

Proposals: Please contact Kirsty Hallkirstyhall@blueyonder.co.uk or 0117 909 3462 with details of what you wish to make (including rough dimensions). Images of previous work or pictures of the work in progress would be helpful but are not essential.

Deadline for proposals: 3rd May 2005
Deadline for arrival of completed work: 31st May 2005 (please don't apply if you can't manage this second deadline).

5  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / uk/europe supplies needed... on: December 12, 2004 04:30:37 PM
Ok so i'm looking for suppliers a bit closer to home than the us for some of these things...

* felt fabric in bulk quantities (not just small squares and not just a few colours like red and green which is all I seem to find in fabric shops)
* cherry stones
* brooch backs
* hair slides
* fabric doll faces
* card blanks for hand printing onto
* clear packaging for cards

I'm sure i'll think of more! I've found places to get jewellery bits and bobs and the clear packaging for cards online but i'm looking for recommendations- anywhere that you've shopped at already would be good to know.

Also I am now selling crafty goodness in the form of kits from http://www.sublimestitching.com (embroidery), http://www.woolandhoop.com (crewel work) http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com (cross stitch) and http://www.madewithsweetsweetlove.com(latch hook rugs) I should soon be selling knitting and crochet kits too- i'm sorting out the website next week so if there's anything you are interested in before that happens then just email me.

hmmm not sure why those links aren't displaying right...

It's from the BBC and inititally I thought I was being set up by What NOT to Wear, but it seems like it does actually exsist- anyone else heard from them? I'm jsut wondering who they are and how they found me! Is it one of you craftsters?
9  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Seaside towns rule for supplies on: June 26, 2004 01:52:03 PM
Oh my goodness- I have just discovered within walking distance from my new house are....newsagents stocking every kind of crafty/knitting magazine you could dream of, Dunelm stokcing gingham pvc for 4 a meter and cushion fillers for 2.50, charity shops full of treasures and endless knitting, sewing, foam selling, rubber stamping doll making shops...
It's a wonderland I tell you, a wonderland.
I bought about 6 cushion fillers and a variety of colours of the gingham which i intend to combine with some curtains I picked up in a charity shop to make cute waterproof bags- not entirely sure how they'll turn out but i'm so excited! Now if I could just get off the internet and actually start crafting i'd be happier with myself and my new purchases...

10  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / UK links... on: April 29, 2004 01:38:40 PM
I've just started creating my first website...http://www.madebymilla.tk i'm learning html from scratch so be nice! Anyway i've got a links page on there and I know that other people in the UK must make stuff/have websites that I could link to, but it seems we are much less well networked than the Americans! If you've got a website/online shop let me know so I can add you on- I really want to support the crafty people in the Uk, not just the ones over the sea...
